At Volvo Penta, we're seeking a passionate Research and Development Engineering Technician to join our dynamic team. The purpose of this job is to support, be part of Volvo Penta product development, design, test-validation and reliability engineering activities through completion of mainly marine workshop related tasks but also for Industrial products. Core Responsibilities: * Completes workshop related tasks to support product development, engineering, validation and reliability engineering activities. * Work with design engineers to build/modify prototype engines. Develop build of material. * Applies organized, systematic, and detailed mechanical methods to complete tasks relating to engine components or systems. Assignments are closely supervised smaller parts of larger projects that involve repair or modifications to engines. * Responsible for diagnosing and repairing vessel/industrial engine systems * Preparation of engine - temp, pressure etc. before testing * Maintains a well-defined relationship with engineering staff including design engineering. * Perform testing / upfit, installation, test fitting, etc. within areas of Engine: Emphasis is placed on accuracy, accountability/ownership, adherence to formal internal and external standards, procedures and processes, and accurate, acceptable documentation. * Collaborate with engineers to plan and prepare for product verification and validation support * Liaison with production on fit and assembly issues. * Maintain workplace, clean, safe working environment * Maintain boat fleet * Performs other duties, tasks and responsibilities as assigned by management to support Volvo Penta goals and objectives. Qualifications Skills and Knowledge Required: * Ability to read and understand blueprints * Ability to understand product specifications * Ability to operate machine and hand tools * Proficient knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office Products (Power Point, Excel, Word, etc.). * Ability to understand and use software that controls machines and equipment * Ability to produce prototype parts from blueprints, sketches * Ability to assemble and disassemble engines and stern drives * Ability to work with minimal instruction and supervision. * Ability to drive root cause analysis of problem/issues * Ability to operate and test machines or components. * Familiarity with DC electrical systems Education and Experience: * Associates degree or Certificate in Gasoline/Diesel Mechanics overhaul and repair; or equivalent combination of education and experience. * Strong mechanical expertise in troubleshooting, repair, overhaul and installation of Volvo Penta marine products. * Marine dealership or related retail trade experience is a plus.
