Position Overview

Position Responsibilities:
Working largely independently, performs routine construction inspection services under the supervision of a Chief Inspector or Resident Engineer. May be responsible for review and assignment of work for Inspector(s).
Duties include taking and documenting detailed measurements for payment, supervising material testing, notifying supervisor of issues and potential deviations from plans and specifications, and working with the contractor to resolve minor issues without guidance.
This position requires full knowledge of company standards, plans, and New York State DOT specifications. Qualified candidates will demonstrate familiarity and competence with various common job site conditions, will be able to clearly communicate project requirements to a contractor, and have the ability to resolve day-to-day disputes with a contractor, as well as have the experience required to know when to elevate an issue to their supervisor, all while maintaining detailed records of work and measurements and documentation for payment.

Communicate incidents, accidents, near misses, potential hazards, and unsafe working conditions to a supervisor or the Health and Safety Department as soon as identified.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Desired 5 years related experience, or similar position with experience in the construction field and transportation projects.
NICET Level III certification or successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering exam required.
Associates Degree required; Bachelor's Degree a plus.

Scope:
Responsible for performing visual/mechanical inspection operations on products to plant, customer, and regulatory specifications.

Compensation and Benefits:

Scope:
Responsible for performing visual/mechanical inspection operations on products to plant, customer, and regulatory specifications.
Duties:
1. Develop a solid working knowledge of the Quality requirements associated with the inspection of units as defined by customer/industry standards such as IPC/J-Stds, etc. to determine the following:
* Determine product acceptability using visual/mechanical inspection and drawings/procedures.
* Document nonconformance issues per plant standards and maintain quality records.
* Perform inspections using various mechanical and electrical measuring devices and techniques.
* Provide cross-functional support to engineering groups when manufacturing deviations arise
* Perform delicate micro adjustments to units (dressing of wires, Removal of fine debris, etc.)
* Perform First Piece Inspections as needed.

and the Code of Ethics and Business Conduct.
* Notify and escalate to appropriate parties when quality issues arise.

3. Effectively carry-out Quality activities in order to:
* provide high quality products and compliant data items to customers within scheduled dates
* ensure compliance to customer and industry requirements
* develop effective controls/solutions to improve product quality (rework, scrap, warranty escapes)
4. Maintain a willingness to challenge established ways of doing things in a constructive way.
Essential Knowledge & Skills:
1. Ability to gain a working knowledge of product requirements (MIL-PRF-38534, MIL-STD-883, drawings, procedures); ability to apply knowledge to microelectronic manufacturing and inspection operations is essential.
2. Ability to read and understand component and assembly drawings and transfer information into visual inspection.
3. Ability to learn and use various visual/measurement equipment (microscope, camera, etc).
4. Ability to juggle multiple tasks and make quality decisions without negative impact on others.
5. Ability to perform basic computer tasks including but not limited to recording data and labor time, retrieving procedures and drawings from databases, taking and saving product pictures.
6. Ability to work both independently or as part of a team in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

Summary
Perform material testing services for concrete and asphalt at producer plants in accordance with established testing methods and standards.
Responsibilities
Test construction materials such as concrete and asphalt for quality control/quality assurance in material plants
Read construction documents and specifications and correctly interpret test results
Record and report test results in a clear, concise manner
Complete each testing assignment accurately and in accordance with the appropriate standards
Turn in field data records and completed reports for each project daily
Communicate regularly with direct supervisor to provide updates on project details
Complete continuing education and preparation for additional certifications
Qualifications
High School Diploma required
Desirable Certifications for this position are ACI Grade 1 Concrete, NYCMA QC/QA Certification; CME will provide full support in obtaining these certifications if do not currently possess
Possess ability to maintain effective working relationships with managers, co-workers and clients through clear communication and proactive progress reporting
Familiarity with construction materials, procedures and documents a plus
Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license
Must possess reliable transportation and current/required automotive insurance coverage
Compensation: $20 - 25/hour
