Summary/Objective: The Technical Service/Quality Control Technician implements and complies with quality assurance methods and procedures to ensure products and materials are produced in accordance with specifications. Essential Functions: Perform specimen tests of concrete from random loads or for special jobs or mixes; prepare test reports as required. Oversee unique jobs to ensure product standards are met, i.e., jobs that have restrictive specifications or require large quantities of material to be delivered. Perform aggregates and batch plants tests including daily graduation and moisture tests on all concrete being produced for State and spec projects. Certify concrete loads being delivered to "spec" jobs in accordance with SHA specifications; check loads for proper procedure and time of mixing. Perform quality assurance tests on trial batches of new concrete mix designs under close tolerance conditions and make adjustments until mixture meets specifications. Troubleshoot problems with customers, analyze and evaluate specific conditions, situations, quantities, etc., and provide appropriate resolution. Provide technical assistance and training to plant managers, equipment and yard operators, and drivers when requested. Perform laboratory tests including gradation, moisture, lightweight particles and specific gravity tests on aggregates. What You'll Bring High school diploma or GED; or equivalent experience. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. unassisted. Must be able to stand, walk, bend, stoop or crouch for at least an 8-hour shift. Must be computer literate, including proficiency with Microsoft Office Products. Ability to use various tools and measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, tape measures, dial indicators, feeler gauges, etc. and verify all test equipment is in calibration and maintained in good working order. Strong shop-floor orientation. Knowledge of aluminum cutting and milling operation is a plus. Must be able to work in a fast-paced working environment with accuracy and integrity. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Detail-oriented. Three (3) plus years manufacturing experience. The Work Study - Tech Biology will participate in research activities with a specified mentor. This student may also assist with ordering and organizing shared laboratory research materials and maintaining the spaces and equipment in the Biological Sciences Research Laboratory. Essential Functions Complete relevant biological assays independently. Collect and analyze field samples and/or data relevant to the research project. Work with faculty mentor to design and implement experiments and/or protocols. Discuss and determine the future directions of the research project in consultation with the faculty mentor. Read and discuss research papers with mentor and potentially other students in the research laboratory. Work with faculty mentor to prepare scientific presentations/posters for dissemination of scientific results, as appropriate. Keep a detailed notebook on all lab functions performed Communicate with lab services and biology faculty members to keep lab stocked and to alert regarding waste removal.
