Responsibilities

• Maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and verify/calibrate laboratory equipment. • Perform special/non-routine testing and data analysis on resin (round robin, gage R&R necessary to meet customer needs for information). • Carry out special analytical and investigational work requiring knowledge, skill, and techniques other than those needed for routine work, including but not limited to feedback to operations with understanding of the link between quality and process, taking initiative to provide assistance with root cause investigations, results interpretation and taking necessary actions when abnormal conditions are detected.

Qualifications

• Must be willing to work a rotating 12 hour shift, 4 days on, 4 days off. • Successful candidates must have working knowledge of college level Mathematics, Chemistry, Chemical Lab Techniques, Statistics • Consideration will be given to candidates with two or more years of related college coursework. Formal training or education in a science related field beyond high school is required (Mathematics, Chemistry, Chemical Lab Techniques, Statistics).

Quality Control Technician
White Castle Distributing – Vandalia, OH
Non-Exempt
Shift Hours: 3:30pm to 12:00am or 5:30pm to 2:00am
(hours can change based on the needs of the plant)
The Quality Control Technicians perform the quality control checks as set forth by the Quality Program, to ensure that raw materials and finished product meet White Castle’s specifications.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
· High School Diploma or GED;
· Associates Degree in Biology, Chemistry or Food Sciences preferred;
· Food Quality Control experience preferred;
· Knowledge of FDA’s Good Manufacturing Practices and HACCP required;
· Experience using Laboratory Scales, Thermometer, Computers and Colorimeters required;
· Good interpersonal skills are essential;
· Able to twist and turn while standing for extended periods of time;
· Pull, push and lift equipment up to 20 pounds;
· Work within extreme temperatures (heat and cold) within the shift.


Essential Functions
· Online inspection of finished products;
· Hourly taste test of hamburgers required;
· Perform online inspections of in-process product;
· Pre-op inspection of the processing line according to established procedures;
· Inspect incoming raw materials and packaging. Pull random samples and test raw materials to ensure they meet specifications;
· Inspect finished product shipments. Inspect trailer temperatures, set points, and trailer conditions.
Physical Effort
· Must be able to be on feet for extended periods of time;
· Twisting, turning will be required.

REQUIREMENTS


Minimum of an Associate Degree in Chemistry, Biology, or Food Science. Candidates without a degree will be considered but must successfully complete training for the position. Prior quality control or food laboratory experience is required. Prior experience using laboratory scales, thermometers, computers, and colorimeters is required. General knowledge of FDA regulations and Good Manufacturing Practices is a plus. Must have knowledge of HACCP, SOP’s, GMP’s, and/or plant policies and procedures. Must be able to effectively communicate with team members on the production line to ensure consistent product quality. Twisting and turning will be required and must be able to stand for long periods of time. Must be able to wear company specified garments that assure cleanliness. Ability to work overtime and Saturday as needed

Essential Duties
· Works safely and follows all GMP and PPE rules and regulations.
· Performs various inspections (dimensional and visual) on randomly selected products for visual aesthetics, type, registration, and dimensional characteristics as required by specifications. Maintains specific records of inspection findings (dimensional and visual) on documented quality procedure forms.
· Performs tests procedures on incoming materials and randomly selected products as specified by test procedures.
· Reports to supervisor all substandard quality visually observed at manufacturing presses.
· Segregates and holds all substandard quality parts which will receive final disposition from the QA Manager.
· Perform regular physical audits on quality hold items and maintains data tracking system.
· Inspects packaging to ensure it complies with customer specifications; reports incorrect packaging to supervisor.
· Sets-up inspection measuring equipment, attribute gauges and hand-held devices to accurately measure products.
· Participates in mock recalls.
· Participates in new hire orientation and conducts QA training.
· Participates in the HACCP Team and related activities.
· Rotates into all normal Quality Technician job assignments as needed throughout departments
· Enters data in software systems (such as MainSaver, EtQ, HAQ, BPCS) for statistical analysis and/or production of control charts.
· All other duties as assigned by supervisor
Education and Experien
High School diploma or GED required.
Three years of progressive experience in Quality Control preferred. Proficient knowledge of Microsoft OS required. Required ability to build positive working relationships through good communication with others. Must have good reading and writing comprehension. Must have basic computer skills for data entry purposes. Ability to follow directions.

Job Specifications
Requires near/far acuity. Must have good vision and color perception. Must be detail oriented. Must be able to do mathematical calculations, read part drawings, and accurately use measuring devices such as, optical comparator, laser micrometer, dynascope vision system, gauges, and hand-held measuring devices.
