Job Skills / Requirements We are looking for a Quality Control Technician to join our team. This role is essential in ensuring mechanical products and parts are at Whip Mix standards to ensure customers receive quality products with on-time delivery. What you'll be doing: Performs inspection on incoming received/internal machined parts and tooling to determine conformance to specifications using all types of standard mechanical and computer setups. Records inspection results in a quality database and reports discrepancies per the Quality Inspection process. Ensures product quality and follows Quality Procedures to take appropriate action when non-conformances are identified. Participates and provides support to Material Review Board activities. Partners and collaborates with other areas in the investigation of non-conforming parts to determine root causes, corrective actions, and limited dispositions following standard quality procedures. Performs QC testing of chemical products and materials. Performs complex first part/first article inspections using a variety of precision mechanical setups and fixtures to determine conformance to specifications and suitability for use. Performs calibration of equipment, instruments, etc. Acts as a gatekeeper of calibration database to monitor, coordinate, update records to ensure timely completion of the calibration activities. Acts as a gatekeeper of Preventive Maintenance (PM) database to monitor, coordinate, and update records to ensure timely completion of PM activities. Works within the Quality Module of the ERP system to satisfy daily operations. What you'll bring to the table: High School Diploma or GED required. 3+ years of related experience Experience in a regulatory manufacturing environment preferred, ISO 13485 standards is a plus. ASQ (American Society for Quality, Certified Quality Technician or Calibration technician preferred. Working knowledge of blueprint reading, GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance) and statistics. Computer skills, including knowledge of MS Office products and ERP system required. The Quality Assurance (QA) Technician is responsible for performing a variety of routine laboratory operations in a quality assurance setting. Duties usually consist of making measurements, performing several routine quantitative and qualitative biological or chemical analytical tests according to standard procedures. * Monitors the production process and product by sensory, weight control, and analytical methods to maintain product consistency and comply with established specifications including color, moisture, pH, weight, size, etc. * Evaluates all finished product in regard to moisture, ingredient content, breakage, color, package fill, raw and finished weights, seal integrity, code date legibility, and overall product quality. * Accurately performs and documents all testing. Testing may include: Inspection and testing of incoming raw materials, in process products, finished goods, and products produced by outside suppliers. Utilizes testing equipment for validation and/ or calibration. * Communicates all out-of-compliance situations and product standards to production employees and Production/QA Supervisors. * Practices and adheres to safety and hygiene guidelines for safe house keeping and personal protection. Keeps all work areas clean, stores laboratory supplies in designated areas, keeps benches and aisles clear. Strictly adheres to safety procedures when handling chemicals for testing. Follows instructions for safe lifting. * Executes the Food Safety Plan and Food Quality Plan included in the SQF Program at the front line level. * Monitors the Food Safety Plan and Food Quality Plan effectiveness and conformance with SQF system requirements * Identifies, investigates and/or determines whether out-of-compliance finished product should be placed on hold. * Coordinates disposition and/or rework with leadership approval. * Monitors raw materials storage area locations and complete shift tailings. Notifies appropriate personnel with any abnormal findings. * Monitors metal detection validation & verification. * Audits allergen maintenance repair sheets and operator forms. * Conducts pre-op inspections of processing, packaging and mixing equipment after product changeovers and/or prior to weekly production start-up as a cross-functional team. * Performs plant sanitation verifications to ensure allergen free and equipment is clean. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS (Functions essential to attaining job objectives): * Foremost is monitoring, testing and maintenance of the wastewater treatment, Powder Coating wash system, Levels washer, boiler, Chemistry in the anodizing process to assure product quality. Bath chemistry of the various treatment tanks is checked on a regular schedule based on production. During that time, the incumbent is responsible for making bath adjustments and scheduling the changing of spent chemicals. Following the check of the bath chemistry at the end of the shift, instructions are written for monitoring any changes or additions on the off shifts. A record of all additions for each tank is maintained and usage monitored. * The incumbent is responsible for checking chemical inventories and re-ordering chemicals as needed to assure that process critical chemicals are always on hand. This inventory responsibility also includes calculation of usage rates. Chemical inventories are maintained for the following: Anodizing operations and throughout the facility. * The incumbent is responsible for working with venders on technical support and problems. * The incumbent is responsible for the maintenance of spare parts and calibration of pH control equipment associated with Anodize line. The incumbent also writes work orders for preventive maintenance and work on equipment in need of repair. * The incumbent is responsible for the routine inspection of process equipment to assure systems are operating normally. * The incumbent, working closely with the Safety/Chemical Supervisor, is responsible for the scheduling of required chemical testing as mandated by permits or reporting back-up. * The incumbent is to schedule routine maintenance work orders and work closely with maintenance staff to correct malfunctioning equipment associated with the above responsibilities. * The incumbent is to see that Out-of-spec trends are evaluated and drag-over effects correlated. Operation changes are proposed based on the findings. * The incumbent, in close coordination with maintenance personnel, will maintain inventories and testing of stamping and cutting oils that may impact anodizing operations. * The incumbent will be able to read and understand the material MSDS sheets and their respective HMIS ratings for appropriate protective equipment. * Must be on 24-hour call. Your daily tasks will include conducting bench top chemistry, taking vials of bourbon, placing them in a testing machine, and recording the results in Excel and the internal system. Responsibilities + Conduct various types of analysis on products including water, raw materials, in-process liquid, finished liquid, and finished packages. + Set up sensory evaluations and report results using RedJade Software. + Provide pre and post sensory setup support, including cleaning glasses, watch glasses, cylinders, and spittoons. + Operate packaging material equipment such as bore profilers and vacuum chambers. Essential Skills + Proficiency in chemistry and biology. + Experience in quality assurance, quality control, and quality inspection. + Strong computer skills including Excel, Word, and Outlook. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Degree in Science, Chemistry, or Biology. + Preferred lab experience. Work Environment The position is based in a bottling facility and distillery. The quality lab is a single room filled with several machines, while the sensory stations are located in a conference room. All personal protective equipment (PPE) is provided except for steel-toed shoes. The role offers a Monday to Friday first shift schedule from 8 am to 5 pm, with no overtime. This is a 6-month contract with the opportunity to extend, in a fun bourbon production environment where you can learn new testing methods from skilled chemists.
