Responsibilities Operate air, power, and hand tools such as air chisels, prybars, bandsaw, sawzall and angle grinders to destructively test or cut out samples of various types of joining technologies Effectively use hand measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, and tape measures Complete visual inspections and or destructive testing of components, welds and other joining technologies Use joining inspection sheets to identify weld ID's and other specific critical joints Accurately document and report data in Excel and report results using Jira Standing and working in awkward positions such as but not limited to kneeling, bending, laying and crouched work may be required for extended periods of time to complete inspections and cutting operations Team lifting and moving of large sub-assemblies well over 100 lbs to move them into cutting positions Ability to push pull loads on wheeled dolly over 100 lbs Ability to lift 50 lbs individually Support manufacturing team equipment and process capability analysis Execute product and process validation / inspection plans Assist in performing and teaching all processes and assignments within the department, with the ability to fill in as needed Identify and contain suspect defective material Perform metal cutting and polishing to create measurable lab samples of welded joints Responsible to participate in quality related continuous improvement (Kaizen) projects Develop, maintain, and improve the quality culture within responsible area May perform other duties as assigned Qualifications Welding, fabrication, metal working, or weld inspection experience required Laboratory equipment experience 3+ years of high-volume manufacturing or quality experience (or) An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience Problem solving experience Computer skills: Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, email - ability to manage files and records effectively Statistical process control / control charts Destructive or non-destructive inspection or testing experience Kaizen / continuous improvement process experience Good oral and written communication skills Geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) Ability to stand for 8-12 hours per day. The Laboratory Scientist is a Bachelor degreed, non-credentialed individual who supports preanalytical, analytic and post analytic laboratory workflows. Responsibilities may include the following: sample processing/aliquoting/prepping for transport/testing and performing CLIA waived and moderate-complexity testing; supporting clinical laboratory areas such as microbiology, molecular, urinalysis, and chemistry. Determines acceptability of specimens within guidelines. Follows protocol in labeling pour-offs. Stores specimens under appropriate conditions as quickly as possible. Prepares reagents / standards / calibrators correctly and ensures they are dated & in sufficient quantity. Performs daily, weekly, monthly maintenance activities and documents appropriately. Recognizes inappropriate specimens; rejects. Assigns complete and accurate source with microbiology specimens; logs specimens into microbiology with correct date and time. Selects appropriate identification and susceptibility testing and performs accurately Performs proficiency testing successfully within assigned timeframe. Ensures quality of work by performing QC at required intervals, performing calibrations and footnoting QC following calibration, investigating cause of out-of-control QC and resolves before testing is resumed. Ensures that outdated materials (kits, QC, or reagents) are not used; uses oldest outdate first. Ensures timeliness of testing by organizing work for minimal turnaround time, performing work in careful manner to minimize repeat testing and turnaround time, referring testing to alternate sites if in-place systems are not operable. Performs and records competency assessment of testing personnel as delegated by medical director. Teaches procedure to students, peers, and new employees Ensures that QC is tested and documented at frequencies mandated by manufacturers and regulatory agencies Reviews worksheets and maintenance logs; investigates or corrects as needed. Performs CLIA waived and moderate-complexity testing on medical samples in accordance with manufacturer specifications using good laboratory practice Demonstrates skills in the post analytical phase of the testing process. Supports same shift co-workers by assisting in department support activities: calibrates pipettes, takes temperatures, dates all kits, QC, reagents in use, dates and restocks reagents and supplies, washes pipettes and glassware, empties garbage, unpacks boxes from receiving and documents receipt, alerts appropriate person if inventory is low. Cleans and maintains instruments, refrigerators, freezers and work and storage areas. Displays a willingness and interest in learning new instruments or procedures or in cross training into other areas.
