Position Summary
The Quality & Operations Manager will have overall responsibility for the success, efficiency, and compliance of Kieh Corporation's laboratory operations and quality systems across both the Elmhurst, IL and Gary, IN locations.
This role combines the responsibilities of the current Quality Manager and Operations Manager into a single leadership position to improve workflow, consistency, and service delivery while ensuring compliance with accreditation standards and industry best practices.
This is a hands-on, multi-site leadership role requiring regular presence at both locations. Ideally, the selected candidate will reside in a central location between Elmhurst and Gary (e.g., Tinley Park, IL or nearby communities).
Key Responsibilities
Operations Leadership (
Integrated from Current Ops Manager Role
)
Overall responsibility for the daily success, workflow, and performance of both locations.
Ensure efficient throughput of samples from shop to lab to office, prioritizing work appropriately while considering customer needs, deadlines, and operational constraints.
Coordinate scheduling, staffing, and workflow to maintain productivity and turnaround times across both locations.
Develop and implement ordering and vendor management protocols that optimize pricing, vendor relationships, and purchasing efficiency.
Create and maintain an inventory management system that improves predictability of ordering, cost control, and supply continuity.
Ensure laboratory equipment and consumable inventory is properly procured, maintained, and aligned with workload demands.
Develop and adhere to preventative maintenance schedules for laboratory equipment, shop tools, office equipment, and company vehicles.
Support payroll preparation on a bi-weekly basis in collaboration with the President and Gary Lab Manager.
Learn and utilize basic reporting and invoicing systems to support the Office Manager as needed.
Provide cross-training where possible to create operational redundancy and continuity.
Ensure safe working conditions and compliance with OSHA and other applicable regulations.
Quality Management & Compliance
Maintain and continuously improve the company's Quality Management System (QMS).
Ensure compliance with applicable accreditation standards and industry requirements.
Lead internal audits, corrective actions, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Serve as the primary point of contact for external auditors and customer quality inquiries.
Develop, standardize, and maintain company-wide standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Ensure consistency of testing methods, documentation, and reporting across both sites.
Take primary responsibility for preparing for and overseeing the upcoming A2LA audit scheduled for this summer.
LabLynx Implementation & Systems Leadership
Spearhead the full company-wide rollout of the LabLynx Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) in the first half of the year.
Coordinate implementation, staff training, and process integration related to LabLynx.
Align laboratory workflows with the new system to improve efficiency, traceability, and data integrity.
Ensure consistency in data management, reporting, and documentation across both laboratories.
Leadership & People Management
Serve as a key liaison between laboratory staff, technicians, supervisors, and President.
Demonstrate strong supervisory capability and leadership presence.
Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
Manage high-stress situations effectively while maintaining professionalism and morale.
Provide regular reporting to the President on operational performance, quality metrics, and key initiatives.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Materials Science, Metallurgy, Engineering, or related technical field (required).
7+ years of experience in a metallurgical lab, testing environment, or related industrial setting.
Prior management of hourly and salaried employees required.
Demonstrated experience in both operations management and quality management.
Familiarity with ISO/IEC 17025 or similar quality standards.
Experience managing workflows across multiple locations.
Proficiency with LabLynx LIMS is required
(experience with LabWorks or Labvantage also considered comparable).
Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
Proficiency in modern computer systems, business software, and digital reporting tools.
Ability to handle increasing workloads and high-pressure environments effectively.
Background in machine maintenance or mechanical troubleshooting a plus.

Overview
Are you passionate about engineering solutions that transform industries? Epstein is seeking a talented Engineer to join our Industrial Process Engineering group. As a key member of our dynamic team, you will drive the development of creative and effective solutions for a diverse range of clients, with a primary focus on industrial food processing and consumer packaged goods. From process flow diagrams to equipment selection, your expertise will play a pivotal role in delivering "best in class" solutions that exceed client expectations.
General Responsibilities
* Lead or assist in Master Planning and design activities for food processing and industrial process lines.
* Develop process flow diagrams, equipment lists, and utility estimates to guide project execution.
* Prepare comprehensive equipment bid packages, including drawings, specifications, and performance criteria.
* Collaborate with equipment vendors to gather essential utility and process information required by other disciplines.
* Coordinate process utility design with equipment specifications and other building design disciplines.
* Manage the shop drawing process for process-related equipment and oversee equipment procurement and installation.
* Support construction administration activities, including equipment start-up and commissioning.
Requirements
* Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related field.
* 3-7 years of experience in consumer products, food, or finished goods manufacturing. Experience with fresh meat processing systems will be considered favorably.
* Proficiency in analyzing interrelationships between different design elements.
* Strong analytical skills and knowledge of relevant analysis methods.
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a collaborative mindset.

Individual compensation is determined by several factors, including relevant education, experience and training, qualifications, skill sets, licensure/certifications and location. Employees are also eligible for discretionary annual bonuses based on both company and individual performance. The salary range for this position is $85,000-$120,000 annually.

Job Summary The Manufacturing Engineer will play a key role in developing and sustaining production processes, equipment, and workflows that ensure components, subassemblies, and final products are manufactured safely, consistently, and in compliance with specifications and regulations. This role has architectural and system-level responsibility for the Manufacturing Execution System (MES), ensuring process traceability, conformance, and integration with Quality and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems. The Manufacturing Engineer will also lead cross-functional initiatives with Product Engineering, Quality, Procurement, Operations, and Production to drive product conformity, efficiency, and continuous improvement. Essential Duties & Responsibilities An individual in this position must be able to successfully perform the following duties. Develop, implement, and train staff in safe, reliable, and ergonomic production processes, workflows, and equipment.
Create and maintain assembly and manufacturing instructions within the MES to enable post-production audit confirmation where required.
Design, implement, and sustain tooling and fixturing to ensure accurate, repeatable, and efficient production.
Oversee tooling, fixturing, and test equipment documentation, identification, calibration, and maintenance requirements.
Design production work cells using lean manufacturing principles (5S, poke yoke, visual factory, kanban) to create an efficient and intuitive environment.
Provide primary oversight of the MES, ensuring full alignment with QMS and PLM requirements.
Support calibration, preventative maintenance, and scalability planning for production systems and equipment.
Identify and resolve process constraints in collaboration with production and engineering teams.
Partner with operators and technicians to understand process concerns, prioritize improvements, and implement effective solutions.
Lead and support internal and external product/process audits.
Facilitate brainstorming and cross-departmental collaboration to ensure cohesive, effective manufacturing solutions.
Qualifications Required:
Bachelor's degree in manufacturing, Industrial, or related engineering field, OR 7+ years of equivalent experience.
5+ years of experience in a regulated manufacturing environment.
Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional projects to successful outcomes.
Experience training and mentoring junior engineers and assembly technicians.
Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
Proficiency in 3D CAD.
Experience implementing and supporting MES systems.
Familiarity with FAA or other highly regulated manufacturing requirements.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs.
Preferred:
Proficiency with SolidWorks and PDM systems.
ERP experience (Infor CloudSuite Industrial or similar).
Experience with external machining, tooling, and automation vendors.
Knowledge of Epicor eFlex MES and/or MQTT Protocol.
Working Conditions Work will be performed in both office and aerospace production environments with PPE required as designated. This role requires mobility on the shop floor, including kneeling, squatting, and bending to evaluate processes and equipment. Occasional lifting of up to 40 lbs. from floor to bench height may be required.
