About the team: The EHSS team is a diverse group of engineers and scientists that ensure the safety and compliance of activities at QuantumScape. What we need: The EHSS team is seeking a hands-on senior level EHSS manager with the knowledge and flexibility to support the dynamic team at QuantumScape. You will lead the EHSS team to manage EHS operations on a day-to-day level, ensuring regulatory requirements and permit conditions are met, while looking at the effect of today's decisions on future planning flexibility. You will build trust with all levels and bring integrity and customer focus to the implementation of EHSS programs. We're looking for someone who takes personal accountability for the team's safety. What You'll do: * Manage a team of EHSS professionals to develop, implement, and maintain environmental, health, safety, and sustainability programs to ensure compliance, injury prevention, and risk mitigation. * Manage all aspects of environmental programs: * Ensure all permit requirements are met * Oversee chemical storage and handling. Serve as a technical resource in evaluating chemical hazards. * Ensure waste and recyclable materials are properly managed * Interface with regulators * Manage TSCA compliance for all incoming and outgoing chemicals * Assist in pollution prevention activities * Complete audits, IH sampling, ergonomic assessments, document any actions needed and follow through to completion. * Ensure incidents are investigated and proper follow-up actions are carried through. * Perform risk assessment and job hazard analyses * Manage safety and environmental/sustainability metrics * Provide input in equipment design and installation projects in EHS, ensure safety and environmental compliance during construction projects * Lead site EHSS committees and interface with regulatory personnel * Serve as the primary contact for incident response, investigation, and resolution * Lead the site Emergency Response Team * Evaluate proposed EHSS compliance laws and regulations to determine applicability and impact to current program sand operations. Skills You'll Need: * BS in chemistry or engineering field (preferred but not required) and 10+ Years of work experience in EHS (or master's degree & 7+ years) * Strong environmental experience, including hazardous materials and waste management, air emissions, wastewater, and sustainability * Must have highly developed written and verbal cross-functional communication skills * Strong project management skills * Strong data management and analysis skills * Strong people skills as the position will be required to influence people * Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail and accuracy * Proficiency with Microsoft Office Nice to have: * MS in chemistry or engineering field * CSP, CIH, or CHMM certification * Experience working within a battery or automotive manufacturing teams * Experience with environmental audits, ISO 14000, TSCA compliance, IATA, BAAQMD compliance, waste minimization, sustainability Physical requirements: * Work is performed in a dry room, fume hood, lab area, or glovebox requiring the use of fine motor skills * Sitting or standing for extended periods of time * Reaching and twisting motions with hands * Lifting up to 25 lbs.
