Founded in 1967 by Leroy Peterson, Quasar Industries was one of the first prototype shops in the country to utilize lasers in its manufacturing process.
In 1974, when Matsushita (pronounced mot-SHOOSH-tah) bought the plant, every 100 completed television sets rolling off conveyor lines needed an average of 140 adjustments or repairs to meet quality standards.
Robert Gerson, senior editor of Television Digest, said that Quasar has held steady at 5 percent of the market in the last three years, compared with 7 percent in 1974.
