When it was realised that the company could not contain Kenyas hostile communities the British declared the country a colony and Protectorate on 1st July 1895 and posted the first Governor, Sir Arthur Hardinge, to establish a formal British administration.
The seventy years of colonial rule in Kenya were characterised by punitive economic, social and political policies. It was against this scenario that African protest movements began in earnest from the early 1920s.
In 1937, Doctor Walter M. Whitaker and Doctor Kent W. Barber, both relatively new Quincy physicians, joined Doctor O.F. Shulian, a long-time Quincy physician, at The Quincy Clinic located at 1416 Maine.
In 1944, the first countrywide nationalist party, Kenya African Union (KAU) was formed.
In 1945, Physicians and Surgeons Clinic acquired the regional office of Standard Oil, located at the northeast corner of 11th and Maine.
The elections were held in 1957, and eight African leaders – Ronald Ngala, Tom Mboya, Daniel arap Moi, Mate, Muimi, Oginga Odinga, Oguda and Muliro, were elected.
But as the objective of freedom became evident, many of the smaller communities feared domination by the larger ethnic groups, and on June 25, 1960 they formed the Kenya African Democratic Union (KADU).
Diplomatic relations and the American Embassy at Nairobi were established on March 2, 1964, when United States Ambassador William Attwood presented his credentials to the Kenyan government.
Space continued to be a luxury for The Quincy Clinic, and in 1969, construction started on an addition to the south to house Internal Medicine, General Surgery, ENT, Ophthalmology, and a new Optical Dispensary, and finally, adequate pharmacy quarters.

In the spring of 1994, a new state-of-the-art medical facility was opened at 1025 Maine Street, and the brand became known as it is today, Quincy Medical Group or QMG. The name change and new logo reflected the group’s commitment to establishing themselves as a regional medical center.
Mwai Kibaki then took over from Moi on 30th December 2002 to become Kenya’s third President through the National Rainbow Coalition (NARC) thus ending KANU’s forty year dominance.
In April 2003, QMG hosted a grand opening for the new four-story facility at 1118 Hampshire Street, housing various medical services and offices, with the Surgery Center of Quincy occupying the top floor.

August – Visiting US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton criticises Kenya for failing to investigate the deadly violence after the 2007 election.

Ethnic violence spread following the disputed 2007 elections.
The International Criminal Court (ICC) drops charges against Francis Muthaura, a co-accused of Mr Kenyatta, over the 2007 election violence.
He and President Uhuru Kenyatta are accused of orchestrating violence after elections in 2007, and will be tried separately at The Hague.
Somalia’s President Mohamud estimates the death toll to be 180 Kenyans, making this the deadliest attack since Kenyan operations in Somalia began in 2011.
After the Supreme Court annulled his victory in the initial vote, Kenyatta won reelection in October 2017.
2017 would mark the opening of the Eye and Vision Institute, offering expanded eye exams, testing, and patient access to state-of-the-art equipment and technology unlike any services in the community.
Until June 2018, Mugambi Kiai served as a program officer with the Open Society Initiative for Eastern Africa and the Africa Governance and Monitoring Project (AfriMAP).
Later, in October 2018, QMG filed an application to establish an Ambulatory Surgery Center at 3301 Broadway.
In 2018, Kenyatta reconciled with Raila Odinga, his opponent in the contested election.
In 2020, QMG relocated its growing Oncology department to the 3301 Broadway location.
IMPACT OF COVID-19: As of December 1, 2021, 5,335 deaths had been attributed to the pandemic in Kenya, and the government’s response to the crisis ranked 133rd among the countries included in this Index in terms of its stringency.
Opened in 2021, QMG Surgery Center’s central location, on the campus of the Quincy Town Center, offers patients a low-cost, high-quality option for outpatient surgical services.
