Position Summary:
The Substation ElectricalEngineer is responsible for executing electrical design and analysis for high-voltage substation projects (up to 345kV) under the mentorship of seniorengineering staff. You will engage in all phases of design - from conceptual engineering through construction support - developing technical expertise and contributing to safe, reliable, and code-compliant solutions for utility and industrial clients.

Some of your responsibilities include:
Support the electrical design of HV substations through schematic design, design development, and construction documents.
Develop substation layouts, grounding, protection one-lines, and panel schedules using AutoCAD, Inventor and Revit.
Assist with modeling electrical systems and one-line diagrams in CYMCAP, AGI32, SKM or ETAP, performing thermal analysis, basic short circuit, arc flash, and coordination studies.
Prepare design calculations, including voltage drop, grounding, load flow, lighting power density, and illumination levels.
Apply knowledge of NEC, NESC, IBC, ANSI/IEEE, IEC, and client standards in all aspects of design.
Participate in site visits and field investigations to support design development and construction.
Review submittals and respond to RFIs during construction administration.
Collaborate with multi-discipline teams on large-scale substation, mission critical, and utility projects.
Work under the guidance of seniorengineers and contribute to mentorship and knowledge-sharing within the team.
Essential Skills and Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree in ElectricalEngineering or Technology.
5 years of experience in substation, power, or related electrical design roles.
Experience with AutoCAD and Revit for substation design and modeling.
Knowledge of SKM PowerTools, ETAP, or similar system modeling software.

EDUCATION
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Materials Science, or related field.

Minimum 5 years' experience in composite product design ( 10 + years preferred).
Expertise in closed-mold composite processes
Strong structural engineering capabilities and working knowledge of composite materials - resins, fibers, cores, adhesives, etc.

Complexity:
The Senior Design Engineer works with the Regional Engineering Director and the Technical Operations Directors on resource assignments. This role is primarily billable in a post‑sales capacity, though there are times when the SDE will work on pre‑sales estimation and design efforts.
Decision Making Authority:
As the final sign off on project bill of materials prior to purchasing, the SDE is responsible for vetting products and making detailed equipment decisions. As the technical leader on a project, the SDE has the authority to recommend direction on scope changes and programming and commissioning activities. The SDE will also be responsible for approving drawing packages being done by other design engineers as well as supervising them in their work.
Physical Working Environment:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that may be met by an employee. Work will normally be performed within normal office conditions and/or home office depending on location of SDE. On occasions the employee may be exposed to construction site conditions. Employee will be responsible for their safety while on job sites and to comply with all safety regulations in place by the GC. Use of PPE is usually required on job sites. We are currently looking for a Structures Project Engineer interested in the heavy civil bridge construction field with +3 years experience to join our team on our Eel River Bridge Partial Replacement and Scour Protection Project for Caltrans District 1 near the town of Rio Dell, CA.
Myers and Sons has been awarded the Contract for the partial replacement and scour protection project for the Eel River Bridge along Northbound Highway 101.This project consists removal of the steel truss section of the bridge and its foundations and replaces it with a cast-in-place box girder bridge sitting on large diameter CIDH pile.Also included are improvements to the hinge support and bolstering of the abutments and existing approach columns. The project also calls for the installation of a MSE wall, along with drainage and pavement improvements. The project is expected to be completed in two seasons.
We are looking for a person with previous Caltrans or bridge construction experience that is capable of developing a deep understanding of the project documents, including the contract with the owner, subcontracts, cost reports, CPM schedules, specifications, project deliverable documents, correspondence, billings, and related project controls items. This person should feel comfortable navigating and working with accounting and project documentation software such as Vista and Heavy Job and be detailed oriented.In addition to office task, this person will work closely with the project superintendent to develop and execute work plans and perform construction layout using AutoCAD and Lecia surveying equipment. This person would excellent is a small team environment where everyone is working towards a successful project.
