ZEIGLER MEATS company history timeline
William Henry Tom developed and taught the first meats course in 1912.
When a separate Department of Poultry Husbandry was formed in 1920, "P. T." remained in the Department of Animal Husbandry and assumed responsibility for the meats courses.
In 1920 students were offered "Animal Husbandry 21," Meat Cutting and Processing, for the first time.
He became famous for his outstanding sausage, and in 1927 his business had grown such that he bought a meat packing house and founded the R. L. ZEIGLER COMPANY. Mr.
He developed and continued his meats instruction, research, and extension activities until he retired in 1957.
Zeigler died in 1964, and three years later the successful business was purchased by three Tuscaloosa businessmen: James Hinton, Frank Moody and Paul "Bear" Bryant.
