R.T. Vanderbilt Company, Inc. first opened its doors for business on Forty-Second Street in New York City in 1916.
He started his career at General Electric, before joining the Company in 1973.
Hugh joined Vanderbilt in 1978 as Advertising Manager and Director of the Board.
He then moved to Cyprus Minerals-A Wholly Owned Subsidiary of Amoco Oil Corp as a Technical Sales Representative before joining RT Vanderbilt Company, Inc. as the Sales Manager-Ceramics Department in 1984.
In 1989, he was elected Chief Financial Officer.
In January 1996, he was elected Director of the Board of Directors.
During the Board of Directors' Meeting of September 19, 2000, he was elected Chairman of R.T. Vanderbilt.
Vanderbilt has grown considerably in the intervening century, and in 2013 it was reorganized to form a holding company, Known as R.T. Vanderbilt Holding Company, Inc., and a number of operating subsidiaries.
In 2013, Hugh was elected Chairman & CEO of R.T. Vanderbilt Holding Company, Inc.
In 2013, he became Executive Vice President - Treasurer & CFO of R.T. Vanderbilt Holding Company, Inc.
