Rabobank N.A. company history timeline

1981

In 1981 Rabobank opened its first overseas branch, in New York.

1983

The bank took its first international steps in 1983, when it acquired 84 percent of ADCA Bank in Germany.

1986

1986: Rabobank begins offering mutual funds.

1987

The bank also stepped up its activities beyond the agricultural sphere, to the extent that, by 1987, loans to the business community outpaced loans to the agricultural market for the first time.

1989

Rabobank’s work in Brazil began in 1989, with a representative office.

For this the company pursued an internal growth strategy, opening new branches and entering new country markets, while also seeking local partnerships and acquisitions in the agricultural banking sector, such as the 1989 purchase of Primary Industry Bank of Australia.

1990

The first occurred in 1990, when Rabobank merged with insurance cooperative Interpolis, bringing the latter's portfolio of insurance products to Rabobank's customers.

1999

Yet the bank remained a relatively small player in a market set to see explosive growth with the launch of the Eurodollar in 1999.

2000

The number of Rabobank branches started to decline in the year 2000, as clients could organize more and more of their banking matters online.

2006

In 2006, Rabobank had branches in 42 countries.

2011

Total assets amount to EUR 665 billion and net profit amounts to EUR 1.9 billion (2011-I).

2021

In 2021, Rabobank operated in 37 countries, with about 8.9 million clients in the Netherlands, of which 2 million are members.
