Radar engineer job description

Seeking qualified and experienced Senior Engineer to support the Radar Systems Division (B40) within the Electromagnetic and Sensor Systems Department (B Department) at Naval Surface Warfare Center, Dahlgren Division (NSWCDD). B40 supports multiple Navy and Marine Corps Radar Systems and provides Sensor Systems expertise across the entire acquisition lifecycle from concept exploration through sustainment of Navy and Marine Corps Radar Systems. Selected candidates will work with Navy/Marine Corps engineers and analysts and will be responsible for contributing to systems engineering taskings for new and evolving tactical Air Surveillance, Fire Control, and/or Ground Weapons Locating Radars. Work assignments may be associated with the AN/TPS-80 Ground/Air Task Oriented Radar or other Navy/USMC radar development programs. Expertise is needed in the following major areas: Systems Engineering and Integration, Test and Evaluation Support and Data Analysis.

Qualifications:

• PhD, Master’s Degree, or Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Electronic/Electrical or Computer Engineering, Science, Math, or Physics.
• At least 5 years of radar system engineering experience desired.
• 12 total years of engineering experience.
• Secret DoD clearance is required.
• Comprehensive knowledge of engineering principles, methods, and techniques.
• Professional certification in one or more specific technologies may be required, depending on job assignment.

Job SummaryEssential Functions/Duties


Performs as a lead on more complex engineering assignments. Performs a variety of engineering assignments in planning and overseeing research, design, development, manufacturing, testing, installation, integration, sustainment, operation, and maintenance of diverse software, electronic, and/or mechanical equipment and systems. Performs generally as a lead of a development, sustainment, or operations maintenance team on more complex engineering assignments.


Independently performs a range of design, development, analysis, or review tasks under generally established project deadlines Performs various radar-engineering tasks (Antenna Theory, Microwave Engineering, Signal Processing, Control Systems, Computer, Communications, etc.) with established deadlines, that are somewhat difficult in nature Completes design specifications, analyses, or design reviews for complex projects Generates complete design specifications for more complex projects Coordinates and works closely with other engineering, logistics, financial, and program management disciplines to define system specifications and requirements Verifies and complies with engineering documentation standards and test procedures Prepares, delivers, and submits technical papers and performs engineering studies Supports development of technical proposals and provides comments on the technical content and level of effort of the proposed scope of work Develops, maintains, and produces technical documentation and system/subsystem specifications Directs interface with customers at all levels from quotation to final design and test activities; acts as liaison for design reviews and technical working group meetings to comply with requirements and specifications Conducts site visits and experimental investigations and analyzes engineering problems, proposes solutions and alternatives, and provides reccomendations Test integrated systems using oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, signal generators, network analyzers, logic analyzers and other test equipment Performs other position-related duties and assignments as directed

Working Conditions


Work is performed in a typical office environment with no unusual hazards. Travel to remote company work locations may be required.


RequirementsEducation, Technical, and Work Experience


A Bachelor of Science in engineering from an ABET-accredited academic institution and 8 years of related engineering experience, or an accredited Master of Science in engineering and a minimum of 6 years of related engineering experience, or an accredited doctorate degree in engineering and a minimum 4 years of related engineering experience are required for this position.

In addition, an Engineer IV must possess the following qualifications:


Comprehensive knowledge of concepts, principles, and practices of engineering to provide consultative services on development programs and in the design and development of systems and components Knowledge and skill sufficient to apply the latest developments in engineering to solve complex problems in the specialty area Working knowledge of computer systems and computer-based engineering tools Well-developed leadership skills Ability to investigate, troubleshoot, and design solutions to problems from a broad prospective Excellent communication and analytical skills Planning/organizational skills and the ability to work under deadlines.

Basic Qualifications
