Radio frequency engineer certifications allow job seekers to demonstrate their competency as an radio frequency engineer to employers. However, not all radio frequency engineer certifications provide the same value for job seekers.
The best certifications for a radio frequency engineer are Engineer In Training Certification (EIT), Telecommunications Master Engineer Certification, and Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS).
Below is a list of the best radio frequency engineer certifications. Obtaining an radio frequency engineer certification will give you a leg up when you apply for jobs and increase your potential salary.
| Rank | Radio frequency engineer certification | Organization |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Engineer In Training Certification (EIT) | NCEES |
| 2 | Telecommunications Master Engineer Certification | iNARTE |
| 3 | Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS) | ETA |
| 4 | Software Engineering Master Certification (SEMC) | IEEE |
| 5 | Radio Frequency Identification Technical Specialist (RFID) | ETA |
The EIT Certification, which is formally known as the Engineer In Training Certification, is simply a document, a number, granted by the individual’s state engineering board after they pass the Engineer In Training Exam. The Engineer in Training Exam (EIT Exam) is the first of two exams you will take as you move towards obtaining your Professional Engineering License (PE). This exam, which you may also hear referred to as the Fundamentals of Engineering exam (FE Exam), is developed and administered in all states (and a number of locations outside the US) by the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES). The FE Exam is offered to eligible students year-round in four different testing windows.
Telecommunications certification is applicable to professionals involved in the science and practice of communications by electromagnetic means. Telecommunications is defined as the science and technology of communication (as opposed to processing of information) at a distance by electronic transmission of impulses, such as by telegraph, cable, telephone, radio, or television.
Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS) technicians and installers cover basic knowledge concepts of distributed antenna systems and antenna installation. This also includes service and skills applicable to all of the functions required to safely and completely install, maintain, troubleshoot and provide support of in-building distributed antenna systems, communications and electronic equipment.
This professional competency certification requires successful completion of Certificates of Proficiency in twelve key knowledge areas: Software Engineering Requirements, Software Engineering Design, Software Engineering Construction, Software Engineering Testing, Software Engineering Maintenance, Software Engineering Configuration Management, Software Engineering Quality, Software Engineering Processes, Software Engineering Models & Methods, Software Engineering Management, Software Engineering Project Management, Software Engineering Economics and the successful completion of two advanced applied modules.
This certification is intended for an electronics technician with an understanding of RFID. The technician should have a basic understanding of the hardware and theory of operation of radio communications as it applies to RFID radio transceiver technology. RFID is a stand-alone but can be used as a Journeyman option when the Associate exam is also taken and passed.
The best radio frequency engineer certification is Engineer In Training Certification (EIT). The Engineer In Training Certification (EIT) is awarded by the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying.
Here's a bit more background on how to obtain this radio frequency engineer certification:
