    The Die Repairman is responsible for maintaining forge dies via SAP locations, cleaning, repairing, and polishing forge dies after the forging process as well as checking shanks, dirt grooves and impressions. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES * Repair of dies damaged during the forging process * Welds dies and forging tools using standard welding procedures. * During the repairing process drawings, templates and/or gauges may be used to verify repairs made to the dies. * Performs die polishing by use of hand tools and hand held grinders using the following operations: caulking, chipping, scraping, filing, grinding and polishing. Which have been damaged in the process of hardening, forging and trimming. * Stamps numbers and/or letter per drawing or written specifications on all dies which may have been damaged during the forging process. * Maintain die work orders generated from die repair including creation and closure in system (currently SAP). * Clear written and verbally communication including daily reporting of dies and their location including moving dies to the ready pile, inventory, weld or other location. * Communicate updates via e-mail, in-person or phone. * Perform an inventory, at least semi-annually, of all dies and maintain according to the defined process (currently Excel sheet in SharePoint). * Accurately tracking die inventory, location, quantity, and condition. * Maintaining cast library including putting new casts away, and removing old or obsolete casts from the library, and updating location list. * Perform general lift truck duties for the die room. * Retrieving dies from the wash area that need to be evaluated by die repair. * Delivering dies to the appropriate areas. * Transporting of products and supplies in and out of the die room. * Observe levels of waste, chips or scrap and remove as required. * Assist forge with die coordination. * Other duties as assigned. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. The ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients and other employees of the organization. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to draw and interpret blue prints. REASONING ABILITY Ability to apply common send understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS None.     Railcar Repairman (Carman) JOB DESCRIPTION: · Repairs, modifies, and upgrades rail cars. · Rebuilds car components: bolsters, side framers, hitch heads, and box car doors. · Welds (30% of time), fabricates, and uses a cutting torch. · Performs mechanical labor (frequently - 95% of time). · Repairs and maintains railcars, according to blueprints and other specifications, using hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring instruments. Inspects machines and equipment visually by touch, special knowledge, and training, to locate causes of trouble. · Operates forklift to move, align, and set in place parts in place. · Measures, cuts, and threads pipes and replaces air lines using hand tools. · Assembles subassemblies, major components, and equipment. Checks the function to test for proper operation. · Repairs broken parts using hand tools and welding equipment. · Enters car repair information via electronic keyboard system. MARGINAL FUNCTIONS: · Maintains a clean work environment. · May set up and operate metalworking tools, such as a welder or grinder. · All other duties as assigned by the supervisor. Frequently: standing, kneeling, stretching, reaching, gripping tools or objects, and bending at the waist. · Regularly: walking, crouching, and twisting while standing.
