Job Summary and Qualifications
As a CT Technologist, you will work with our friendly interventional radiologists assisting with various types of biopsies, drain place placements, aspirations, injections, cry ablations, and microwave ablations. We are looking for someone who feels patient care is as meaningful as we do. In this role:
You will administer both oral and IV contrast; evaluate patients for any allergic reactions; place correct IV for the exam being performed.
You will be loading and operating MedRad power injector.
You will operate and understand CT scanning equipment; practice ALARA standards; understand physician protocols and scan appropriately.
You will be assisting interventional radiologists with procedures.
You will be maintaining a clean work environment and stock the department with supplies and linens.
You will be moving, lifting, and assisting patients on to and off the scanner table.
What qualifications you will need:
Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
Registered Radiographer (ARRT)
Current ARRT CT certification or registry eligible and must obtain within 6 months of hire

Key Responsibilities:
Patient Preparation and Care:
Greet and assess patients to determine the appropriate CT scan procedure based on their medical history and physician's orders.
Explain the CT procedure to patients, addressing any questions or concerns to ensure comfort and cooperation.
Position patients properly to ensure accurate imaging while ensuring their comfort and safety.
Monitor patient condition during the scan, ensuring they remain still and follow instructions.
CT Scanning and Equipment Operation:
Operate CT machines to capture high-quality diagnostic images.
Adjust settings on the CT scanner as needed to obtain the best image quality for the specific procedure.
Administer contrast agents as required for certain imaging exams, ensuring patient safety and proper protocols are followed.
Maintain and troubleshoot CT equipment to ensure it is functioning correctly and perform quality control checks.
Collaboration with Medical Team:
Work closely with radiologists and physicians to ensure proper image quality and to provide any additional scans or follow-up imaging as requested.
Communicate effectively with the healthcare team regarding patient conditions, test results, and any issues encountered during the scanning process.
Assist in guiding the patient through the process and providing post-scan instructions, including follow-up care or next steps if necessary.
Documentation and Record-Keeping:
Ensure accurate patient information is recorded in the system, including medical history, imaging results, and procedure notes.
Complete imaging requisitions and maintain electronic health records (EHR) in compliance with hospital policies and regulations.
Track and log contrast usage, patient allergies, and any adverse reactions.
Safety and Infection Control:
Follow radiation safety protocols and minimize exposure to both patients and staff.
Use appropriate protective equipment, such as lead aprons, when necessary.
Adhere to infection control practices and maintain a clean and sterile environment in the CT room.
Ensure that all safety checks, such as equipment calibration and contrast administration, are followed to prevent adverse events.
Patient Education and Support:
Provide instructions to patients on what to expect before, during, and after the CT scan.
Address any patient anxiety or concerns, providing reassurance and ensuring their comfort throughout the process.
Explain the importance of the CT procedure and follow-up actions, as needed.
Maintenance and Quality Control:
Perform regular maintenance checks on CT equipment, reporting any issues to the appropriate personnel for repairs or adjustments.
Adhere to protocols for ensuring the quality of images meets the required standards.
Participate in continuing education and training to stay current with new imaging technologies, techniques, and safety practices.
Qualifications:
Education:
Associate's degree in Radiologic Technology or a related field.
Completion of a formal CT training program is preferred.
Licensure and Certification:
Current certification in Radiologic Technology (ARRT) or equivalent.
Certification in CT (ARRT-CT) preferred or required within a specified period after hire.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
Experience:
Previous experience as a CT Technologist is preferred, but new graduates with clinical training may also be considered.
Skills:

The CT/X-ray technologist is responsible for performing a full range of computed tomography (CT) and general radiographic (X-ray) examinations, including intraoperative fluoroscopic guidance. The incumbent often works independently with minimal supervision and is expected to deliver services in accordance with institutional protocols, regulatory guidelines, and professional standards. The position requires autonomous decision-making, strong technical competency, and effective communication skills.
Principal Functions and Responsibilities:
Performs CT and X-ray procedures in accordance with provider orders and established departmental protocols.
Operates, monitors, and maintains CT and X-ray equipment, ensuring compliance with quality assurance and safety standards.
Prepares patients for procedures and provides clear, compassionate communication regarding the imaging process.
Ensures appropriate patient identification, documentation, and safety practices for all procedures.
Demonstrates a thorough understanding of radiation safety protocols and ALARA principles.

Hands-on experience operating X-ray and CT equipment, including basic troubleshooting.
Understanding and familiarity of radiation safety practices and ALARA principles for patient and staff safety, including patient shielding and dose optimization techniques.
Knowledge of human anatomy (including cross-sectional anatomy) and physiology relevant to diagnostic imaging.
Strong communication skills for interacting with patients, technologists, and healthcare providers.
Detail-oriented approach to image quality, labeling, positioning, and documentation.
Basic proficiency with imaging software and hospital information systems (PACS, RIS, EHR).
Exposure to clinical workflows in hospital or outpatient settings.
Preferred Experience and Skills:
Two (2) years of experience in general diagnostic radiography and computed tomography in a clinical or hospital setting.
Previous experience working in a rural, critical access, or low-volume facility where independent performance of duties was required.
Demonstrated competency in both trauma and non-emergent imaging workflows.
Familiarity with Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) and Radiology Information Systems (RIS).
Proficiency in operating and troubleshooting CT and X-ray equipment from multiple manufacturers (Care Stream, Toshiba, Quantum, Shimadzu, GE-OEC C- Arm/Fluoroscopy, etc.).
Intraoperative fluoroscopy experience.

Experience and/or licensure in MRI is advantageous.
