Responsibilities:
RESPONSIBLE FOR: Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) technologists utilize the resonant frequency properties of atoms within a magnetic field to image anatomic and/or physiologic conditions of the body to assist physicians in the diagnosis of disease. MR technologists perform diagnostic magnetic resonance examinations in accordance with all prescribed standards under the direct guidance of the supervising Radiologist. MR Technologists provide patient care to all age groups to include neonatal, pediatrics, adult, and geriatrics.
Qualifications:
MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED:
Graduate of an AMA approved Radiologic Technology program or JRCERT accredited hospital-based training program.

Responsibilities
As a Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist you will:
Performs a variety of difficult radiographic examinations for patients. Receives requests from referring physicians. Determines what procedures to use in performing test from a brief explanation of patient history on form. Receives patient, explains methods of procedures, positions patient, selects and sets primary factors; sets up and adjusts accessory equipment, X-ray machines and makes exposures for the clinician requested procedure. Independently distinguishes between abnormal clarification and artifact and determine and additional views will be required. Determines any special patient preparation will be necessary. Monitors equipment operation for quality assurance purposes.
Independently prepares and sets up radiology exposure room for patients. Assures that sterile supplies, contrast materials, catheters or other equipment are present and laid out. Prepares and assists the radiologist in the administration of contrast material and a limited number of anesthetic or antispasmodic drugs such as Lidocaine. Assists with administering contrast material either orally and/or by enema and monitors the patient for vital signs and makes immediate notification to the radiologist of significant changes.
Performs procedures, with a radiologist, such as Myelogram, Venogram, Arthrogram, Void Cystourethragram (VCUG), Hysterosalpingogram (HSG), Upper and Lower Gastrointestinal (GI), Barium Enema, G-Tube check, radiographic examinations of the skull, chest, pelvis, spine, abdomen, and extremities on patients of all ages and demonstrates the ability to adjust technical factors when unusual deviations from standard positioning and technical factors are necessary. Utilizes C-arm in the operating room, and performs portable x-ray examinations on hospital wards, in hospital outpatient clinics, troop medical centers, the Emergency Department, operating room, and nursery. Rotates through the assigned rotation/room schedule. Evaluates film for proper detail, contrast, proper collimation, artifacts and the causes, proper positioning, proper technique and insures accurate labeling as to name, date and other pertinent information. Reviews all films taken to ensure they meet departmental standards for acceptance. Reviews radiographs in the absence of the quality control technologist prior to submitting the imaging study to the radiologist. Maintains number of exposures; repeat and additional records for the department by entering data into the Composite Health Care System (CHCS). Provides assistance to staff technologists on highly complex examinations. Maintains the smooth flow of patients into and out of the radiology department by matching the minimum number of views to requests. Sends, exports, and imports radiographs using Digital Imaging Network and Picture Archiving Communication System. Conducts Quality Assurance Assessments of Digital Rooms and Digital Portable Machines through the utilization of the Quality Assurance Program (QAP).
Assists in the teaching and guidance of active duty military and student x-ray technologists through on the job shadow rotation program in preparation for their Phase II Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist Certification, and the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification examination. Evaluates the students' technical and effective performance to ensure the qualifications of the Medical Education and Training Campus are met. Provides input to the Student Clinical Coordinator regarding their performance. Demonstrates proper techniques, and uses other instructional tools, such as poor quality film illustrations, to assist technologists in maintaining and improving their proficiency in positioning techniques. Provides technical assistance and solves problems which are beyond the scope of the assigned training technicians. For unique patient/problem situations, develops new techniques and positioning to obtain desired view for diagnostic examinations.

Radiology Certification: Public Law 97-35 requires that persons who administer radiologic procedures meet the credentialing standards in 42 CFR Part 75. Essentially, they must (1) have successfully completed an educational program that meets or exceeds the standards described in that regulation, and is accredited by an organization recognized by the Department of Education, and (2) be certified as radiographers in their field. The following meet these requirements:
(1) Persons employed by the Federal Government as radiologic personnel prior to the effective date of the regulation (January 13, 1986) who show evidence of current or fully satisfactory performance or certification of such from a licensed practitioner such as a doctor of medicine, osteopathy, dentistry, podiatry, or chiropractic who prescribes radiologic procedures to others.
(2) Persons first employed by the Federal Government as radiologic personnel after the effective date of the regulation who (a) received training from institutions in a State or foreign jurisdiction that did not accredit training in that particular field at the time of graduation, or (b) practiced in a State or foreign jurisdiction that did not license that particular field or did not allow special eligibility to take a licensure examination for those who did not graduate from an accredited educational program, provided that such persons show evidence of training, experience, and competence as determined by OPM or the employing agency.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing mammography radiographic examinations and performing quality assurance procedures. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).

Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Diagnostic Radiology/ Mammography
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages.

The Radiology Technologist will perform and analyze patient x-rays and report results to our physician team.
