Job Description
Radiological Technologist takes radiographs of various portions of the patient's body as requested by the patient's physician to assist the medical staff in detection of foreign bodies and diagnosis and injuries. The Radiological Technologist must have the minimum knowledge and abilities to provide service and care to patients and customers of all ages. The Technologist regulates the radiation controls under the ALARA standards. He/she understands the process in place operating the digital systems in radiology used for imaging, sending images, storing and reporting of images. Technologist will be required to assist with lifting or moving patients for proper positioning of exams ordered. Technologist understands workflow within department and basic hospital wide workflow and processes.
Requirements:
Completion of course of study in radiologic technology from an AMA approved school
Registered as an American Registered Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) and licensed by Illinois Department of Nuclear Safety
Good background knowledge of anatomy and positioning
CT experience preferred
Understand basic principles of physics, electricity, and methods of exposure to obtain clearly defined radiographs
May be required to work any day of the week including holidays and weekends.

Responsibilities
Take radiologic films providing quality images to physicians to aid in the diagnosis of medical problems.
* Prepare and position patients for imaging and selects exposure factors accurately.
* Prepare and administer contrast media and medications within the accepted scope of practice and applicable state and federal regulations.
* Observe patient during procedure and reports abnormal activity. Monitor protocols and recommends updates or refinements as warranted.
* Follow radiation safety procedures and guidelines. Prevent patient from being exposed to unnecessary radiation.
* Ensure prompt submission of high-quality of all images and documents sent to PACS (image quality, correct lead markers and patient data/history).
* Ensure equipment is properly functioning. Report potential problems or equipment malfunction to appropriate personnel. Lock/tag out equipment if appropriate.
* Assist in maintaining a clean, and orderly department to include procedure rooms, storage areas, dressing rooms, film storage area and any other areas in department.
* Position patients and selects anatomic and technical parameters accurately.
Requirements
Licensure / Certification / Registration:
* BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
* Radiologic Technologist specializing in Radiography credentialed from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) obtained within 6 Months (180 days) of hire date or job transfer date required.
Education:
* High School diploma equivalency with 2 years of cumulative experience OR Associate's degree/Technical degree OR 4 years of applicable cumulative job specific experience required.

Job Overview
Provides general clinical assistance by preparing equipment, administering medication by mouth as ordered and aiding primary clinicians (physicians, nurse practitioner or physician assistant) during treatment and examination of patients. Assures that the patient treatment areas are clean and stocked. Assists with patient testing and assessment functions as assigned.
Job Duties include the following, other duties may be assigned:
* Explains procedures and treatments to patients to gain cooperation, understanding and allay apprehension.
* Administers treatments in accordance with Center Protocols.
* Prepares equipment and aids primary clinician (physician, nurse practitioner or physician assistant) during treatment and examination of patient.

* Verifies instrument functioning by checking and calibrating specific lab instruments and documents data.
* Directs someone with access to CMMS to place a work order for repairs, replacement and maintenance of equipment as needed.
* Prepares patient for and assists with examinations.
* Cleans and sterilizes instruments and equipment, and maintains stock of supplies and medications.
* Conducts specified laboratory tests.
* Performs and records electrocardiograms.
* Escorts patient to room for assessment.

**Responsibilities**
Take radiologic films providing quality images to physicians to aid in the diagnosis of medical problems.
+ Prepare and position patients for imaging and selects exposure factors accurately.
+ Prepare and administer contrast media and medications within the accepted scope of practice and applicable state and federal regulations.
+ Observe patient during procedure and reports abnormal activity. Monitor protocols and recommends updates or refinements as warranted.
+ Follow radiation safety procedures and guidelines. Prevent patient from being exposed to unnecessary radiation.
+ Ensure prompt submission of high-quality of all images and documents sent to PACS (image quality, correct lead markers and patient data/history).
+ Ensure equipment is properly functioning. Report potential problems or equipment malfunction to appropriate personnel. Lock/tag out equipment if appropriate.
+ Assist in maintaining a clean, and orderly department to include procedure rooms, storage areas, dressing rooms, film storage area and any other areas in department.
+ Position patients and selects anatomic and technical parameters accurately.
**Requirements**
Licensure / Certification / Registration:
+ BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
+ Radiologic Technologist specializing in Radiography credentialed from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) obtained within 6 Months (180 days) of hire date or job transfer date required.
Education:
+ High School diploma equivalency with 2 years of cumulative experience OR Associate's degree/Technical degree OR 4 years of applicable cumulative job specific experience required.

Job Summary:
The Radiologic Technologist performs diagnostic radiology duties to include EKG's, knowledge of charging processes, understands process for reporting critical value readings and tracking as well as transmitting images to on-call physicians; knowledge of proper infant, adult and pregnant adult technique selections and surgical procedures for x-ray exams; and consistently utilizes radiation safety protocols.
The Radiologic Technologist must be a graduate of an accredited Radiological Technology program and maintain ISDH and ARRT certifications or is ARRT/ISDH registry eligible which must be obtained within 3 months of hire. Six months of hospital experience is preferred. BLS is required within 6 months of hire.
Job Duties
* Consistently keeps department/equipment stocked and clean.
* Demonstrates knowledge of EPIC processes, PACS, charges and confidentiality.
* Demonstrates knowledge of equipment functions, safety, image transmission and troubleshooting.
* Demonstrates knowledge of imaging protocols and provides quality radiographs.
* Keeps current on department communications (emails, postings, monthly updates, etc.).
* Performs patient exams within proper time frame.
* Properly recognizes and demonstrates knowledge of when/how to contact physicians for emergency results.
* Demonstrates knowledge of surgical procedures for x-ray exams performed in surgery.
