Seeking Rad Tech - 13 Week Contract Requirements: ARRT, BLS, 1 Year of Experience, 2 Preferred Pay Details: Weekly Pay, Housing and Meal Stipends, Travel Reimbursement A Radiologic Technologist, or X-Ray Technologist, is a medical professional responsible for using imaging machines and tools to create a map of a patient's internal tissues and organ systems to assess their overall health. Their duties include explaining procedures to patients, calibrating imaging equipment and preparing results. Follow instructions from Physicians regarding which area of the patient's body needs imaging Talk the patient through the procedure and answer questions to lower their anxiety Correctly position the patient, adjust the imaging equipment to the specified position Prevent unnecessary radiation exposure both to themselves and to the patient Follow correct techniques and procedures such as patient shielding Keep good patient records Maintain radiology supplies inventory by checking stock, anticipating future needs and placing orders Maintain a safe and clean working environment

Introduction This recruitment is being given to fill 1 part-time (per diem) positions in the Office of Medical Examiner department and to establish an eligible referral pool to fill future part-time opportunities. TYPICAL DUTIES * Prepares and positions patients for diagnostic x-ray films; determines the correct exposure factors on the basis of height, weight, portion of body involved and degree of penetration required; selects appropriate cones and screens to reduce secondary radiation and fogging; sets machine control and exposes the required number and type of film. * Assists Radiologist in fluoroscopic x-ray examinations; assembles equipment; measures and mixes barium and contrast media; maintains surveillance over patients, performs radiographs as necessary for the radiographic procedure. * May operate computerized tomography scanner; assists radiologist in performing special x-ray examinations such as angiography, arthrography, myelography, and other special procedures. * May prepare and position patients for sonographic imaging examinations; calibrates and adjusts equipment according to the area of body involved; takes appropriate films of each examination. * Records patient information, patient identification numbers, and number and type of views taken in-patient log; maintains records as required. * Demonstrates all procedures to students; monitors students; performance of procedures; corrects faulty techniques and explains appropriate methods. * Develops exposed film using automatic processors. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Experience: Eighteen months performing radiographic work. Substitution: Graduation from the San Joaquin General Hospital School of Radiologic Technology may be substituted for six months of the required experience. Licenses and Certificates: Registration with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists, and certification by the Department of Health, State of California, as a Radiologic Technologist. Note: Generally, persons who are registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists may obtain certification as a Radiologic Technologist in the state of California upon applications and payment of fees to the state Department of Health. Special Requirements: Possession of a State of California Certification in mammography or a State of California fluoroscopy permit may be required as a condition for assignment or continued assignment as a Radiologic Technologist II. KNOWLEDGE Methods and techniques of diagnostic radiography; various anatomical positions used in radiography; and care and use of radiographic equipment; safety practices to prevent overexposure to radiation. ABILITY Sit and/or stand for extended periods of time, manual dexterity sufficient to administer procedures and operate equipment; bend, stoop and lift patients; position patients for a variety of imaging examinations; understand and carry out complex oral and written instructions in exact detail; demonstrate the operation of x-ray equipment in practical work situations; perform minor interventional x-ray procedures; maintain records; establish and maintain effective relationships with medical staff, patients and patients families.
