Position Summary:
Under general direction, provide patient services in a Level I Trauma Center. Manage, coordinate, organize, and maintain supplies, equipment and technology used in each invasive radiographic area (Interventional Radiology or Cardiac Catheterization Lab). Provide clinical radiologic care by using radiographic imaging modalities and procedures used in the diagnosis and treatment of disease, disability, impairment and illness. The delivery of quality service and positive interaction with customers is critical to the completion of all tasks. Ensure adherence to Hospitals and departmental policies and procedures. Patient care assignment may include; Neonate, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult and Geriatric age groups.
Detailed responsibilities:
* PATIENT CARE - Deliver safe direct care to an assigned group of patients as required
* X-RAY - Follow prescribed techniques to administer specific radiation for imaging purposes; adjust equipment; calculate exposure factors; position and immobilizes patients, as necessary; use appropriate lead shielding
* EQUIPMENT - Operate imaging equipment, computer and other assistive devices according to department standards
* PATIENT CARE - Provide patients education and consultation on disease management
* OBSERVATION - Observe patient and equipment during procedures; document patient reactions or problems on requisition and report immediately to supervisor
* CONTRAST MEDIA - Prepare and administer contrast media/agents
* PAPERWORK - Complete and verify all appropriate paperwork involved in but not limited to exams, patient education, lab results and patient check lists
* IMAGING - Assist physician with imaging process; follow Radiology Department protocols
* SAFETY - Provide protection to patients, family members, staff and self in accordance with prescribed radiation safety standards and ALARA
* PATIENT CARE - Assume care for physical needs of the patient during examinations and procedures
* CLINICAL EDUCATION - Instruct specific units of didactic and/or clinical education as required to students, clinical staff and residents
* SUPPLIES - Clean assigned area; maintain stock supply levels through inventory control and requisitioning
* QUALITY CONTROL - Assume responsibility for portions of the quality control programs and provide instruction as required
* PATIENT ASSISTANCE - Assist in reception area, scheduling office and/or film library; aid patients and transport them, as necessary
* FLOAT - May be required to float to another work assignment/area
* DEVELOPMENT - Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, reading current literature, attending in-services, meetings and workshops
* PATIENT SAFETY 1 - Follow patient safety-related policies, procedures and protocols

The X-ray technician performs all x-ray procedures while under the general supervision of a licensed practitioner, for the purposes of diagnosis and/or treatment of anatomic and physiologic disorders at a technical level not requiring constant supervision and within the scope of their license and according to established standards and practices of the American College of Radiology (ACR).
Responsibilities and Duties:
Performs all x-ray procedures with appropriate application of technical and positioning protocols, safety procedures, radiation protection and proper image identifying criteria according to department policy and procedure.
Verifies physician orders for instructions from requesting physician and consults with the radiologists.
Preps patient for exam. Explains procedure and provides education as appropriate.
Performs equipment warm up, calibration and safety check as needed. Operates hospital computer system. Reports to supervisor any equipment malfunctions. Operates equipment in accordance with manufacturer guidelines for appropriate quality control.
Minimizes radiation to patient and staff by practicing radiation protection techniques.
Maintains production and quality of x-rays by following established standards and procedures; developing x-rays; observing x-ray results; determining necessary adjustments for optimum results; retaking x-rays as required; forwarding completed studies to radiologist for interpretation.
Responsible for departmental records. Accurately and promptly documents in departmental records (film, file, and computer) patient name, exam date, film/image markers, clinical history, complaints, allergies, etc.
Reports reactions, complications, changes in condition etc. to radiologist, physician, supervisor, peers and nursing unit.
Assists management with an effective quality and process improvement program for all areas of responsibility. Participates in volume reporting, productivity reporting, quality improvement data, and maintaining appropriate documentation for regulatory agencies.
Maintains a cost efficient supply of inventory, which minimizes department expense while ensuring appropriate stock levels.
Ensures operation of x-ray equipment by completing preventive maintenance.
Acts as a steward for quality process improvement and resource management.

+ Complies with all relevant professional standards of practice
