Examples of Typical Tasks:
At a higher level, performs the duties of Assignment Level I:
1. Prepares radiological area, equipment, contrast materials and supplies, as needed for patients.
2. Prepares patient for x-ray, explains procedures, transfers patient to table, positions patient and assists patient at end of procedures.
3. Follows prescribed techniques to administer general and specific x-rays. Adjusts equipment, determines proper voltage, current and desired exposure time, arranges immobilization and support devices to obtain position of patient, adjusts lead shield, and selects proper imaging techniques.
4. Develops images in accordance with photographic techniques.
5. Observes patient and machine during procedure and reports unusual occurrences and records patient's condition.

7. Transports and uses mobile x-ray equipment in patient care area as required.
8. Follows all proper radiation, patient, and employee safety protocols; adheres to all appropriate radiation prevention, containment, and control measures.
9. Effectively uses electronic medical records (EMR) to document patient encounters and access pertinent patient data and imaging results.
In addition to performing duties of Assignment Level I at a higher level, also performs the following:
1. Performs procedures on patients whose conditions require specialized expertise.
2. Assists Radiologists, other physicians and allied health care professionals in performing diagnostic or treatment procedures.
3. Performs diagnostic testing on equipment and general maintenance.
4. Monitors patient and equipment condition during procedure and reports changes to appropriate health care professional.
5. Assists and guides radiographers in the performance of a wide variety of x-ray procedures.
6. Trains and assists radiographers in a wide variety of x-ray procedures.
7. Plans, schedules and coordinates the day-to-day activities of the area to ensure continuous flow of work.
8. Supervises radiographers and ancillary personnel assigned to the area.

Assignment Level II
1. Valid license and current registration to practice Diagnostic Radiography as a Radiologic Technologist issued by the NYSDOH.
All Radiologic Technologists in Assignment Levels II and III shall receive a differential of $7,500 per annum to be cross-trained on different modalities of radiologic imaging and to be cross-assigned (once trained) to different imaging settings depending on patient volume and staffing needs within a facility.

This class of positions encompasses responsible clinical and administrative work of varying degrees of difficulty and responsibility involving day-to-day tasks of an operating segment of the Radiology department in the delivery of radiological services. Operates x-ray equipment, develops images, and prepares radiological areas, equipment, supplies and contrast materials. All personnel perform related work.
Performs responsible supervisory, administrative and clinical activities involving day-to-day supervision of an operating segment of the Radiology department in the delivery of radiological services, or performs specialized imaging procedures with diagnostic and interventional radiography. There are two (2) types of assignments in this Level of positions.
For Specialized Imaging Assignments, performs typical tasks of Assignment Levels I and II, as listed below, for special procedures with diagnostic and interventional radiography in Computerized Tomography, Magnetic Resonance Imaging or Mammography; and performs additional related Assignment Level III tasks described below, as applicable to this type of assignment.
For Supervisory Assignments, in addition to performing duties of lower Assignment Levels at a more difficult and responsible level, performs the duties described below for Assignment Level III.
Examples of Typical Tasks:
Assignment Level I:
1. Prepares radiological area, equipment, contrast materials and supplies, as needed for patients.
2. Prepares patient for x-ray, explains procedures, transfers patient to table, positions patient and assists patient at end of procedures.
3. Follows prescribed techniques to administer general and specific x-rays. Adjusts equipment, determines proper voltage, current and desired exposure time, arranges immobilization and support devices to obtain position of patient, adjusts lead shield, and selects proper imaging techniques.
4. Develops images in accordance with photographic techniques.
5. Observes patient and machine during procedure and reports unusual occurrences and records patient's condition.
6. Maintains supplies, equipment and required records.
7. Transports and uses mobile x-ray equipment in patient care area as required.
8. Follows all proper radiation, patient, and employee safety protocols; adheres to all appropriate radiation prevention, containment, and control measures.
9. Effectively uses electronic medical records (EMR) to document patient encounters and access pertinent patient data and imaging results.
Assignment Level II:
1. Performs procedures on patients whose conditions require specialized expertise.
2. Assists Radiologists, other physicians and allied health care professionals in performing diagnostic or treatment procedures.
3. Performs diagnostic testing on equipment and general maintenance.
4. Monitors patient and equipment condition during procedure and reports changes to appropriate health care professional.
5. Assists and guides radiographers in the performance of a wide variety of x-ray procedures.
6. Trains and assists radiographers in a wide variety of x-ray procedures.
7. Plans, schedules and coordinates the day-to-day activities of the area to ensure continuous flow of work.
8. Supervises radiographers and ancillary personnel assigned to the area.
9. Maintains inventory of supplies and equipment to ensure operational viability of the area.
Assignment Level III:
1. Supervises the delivery of radiological services, in accordance with established standards and procedures, for the service area or unit.
2. Recommends changes and improvements relating to the delivery of radiological services.
3. Participates in the development of training programs for radiographic personnel, ancillary personnel and allied health care professionals. Demonstrates new or revised techniques, procedures and equipment.
4. May perform radiologic procedures, as required.
5. Performs special procedures including diagnostic and interventional radiography (e.g., C.T., M.R.I., and Mammography).
6. Recommends area assignment of personnel to coordinate activities within the department with other activities and services and represents the department in interdepartmental operations and meetings.
7. Participates in quality assurance activities, including coordination, control and maintenance of technical equipment.
8. Participates in and coordinates procurement and storage of supplies and makes recommendations regarding supply and equipment needs.
9. Performs research and participates in special projects involving evaluation of equipment and delivery of service.
10. May be assigned duties and responsibilities of immediate Supervisor in their absence on a temporary basis.
Minimum Qualifications
Assignment Level III
1. For Supervisory Assignments: a valid license and current registration to practice Diagnostic Radiography as a Radiologic Technologist issued by the NYSDOH; and two (2) years of Radiologic Technologist experience performing duties consistent with Assignment Levels I and II, one (1) year of which must have been in a supervisory capacity.
2. For Specialized Imaging Assignments: a valid license and current registration to practice Diagnostic Radiography as a Radiologic Technologist issued by the NYSDOH; and possession of a current advanced- level certification for the performance of these procedures.
Department Preferences
Preferred:
Advanced certification by the ARRT in Mammography.
Two or more years' experience as a Mammographer Technologist.
Additional Salary Compensation
All Radiologic Technologists in Assignment Levels II and III shall receive a differential of $7,500 per annum to be cross-trained on different modalities of radiologic imaging and to be cross-assigned (once trained) to different imaging settings depending on patient volume and staffing needs within a facility.
