The X-Ray Technician is a trained medical professional performing radiological duties in compliance with regulatory and departmental requirements. The duties of the X-ray Technician vary from setting to setting, depending on the size, location and type. The X-ray Technician will perform radiographic exams, ordered by the physician, that are technically satisfactory, properly positioned and processed adequately. All exams must be performed using the ALARA principle to minimize radiation dose to the patient. A CT technologist recognizes patient conditions, assesses and monitors patient vital signs, and takes appropriate actions in emergency situations essential for successful completion of a procedure and to maintain quality patient care. CT Technologists must demonstrate an understanding of human anatomy, physiology, pathology, pharmacology, computer technology, basic patient care and assessment techniques, radiation physics, radiation biology, radiation protection, and medical terminology. CT technologists must maintain a high degree of accuracy in positioning and exposure technique. They must possess, utilize, and maintain knowledge of radiation protection and safety and current complex scanning protocols. CT Technologists are the primary liaison between patients, licensed independent practitioners and other members of the support team. CT technologists must remain sensitive to the physical and emotional needs of the patient through good communication, assessment, monitoring, and care skills. CT Technologists prepare, administer, and document activities related to medications and radiation exposure in accordance with federal and state law as well as institutional policy. The participation in quality improvement processes and continuous assessment of performance is expected. The scope of practice for the CT Technologist includes: Performing CT procedures. This job determines and/or following appropriate imaging protocols. Verifying informed consent. This job assumes responsibility for patient needs before, during, and after procedures. This job prepares patients for procedures. This jobapplies principles of ALARA to minimize exposure to patient, self, and others. This job performs venipuncture per procedural protocol based on imaging order from a licensed independent practitioner. This job starts and maintains intravenous access per procedural protocol based on an imaging order for a LIP. The CT Tech II WIP job identifies, prepares and /or administers medications generally associated with diagnostic imaging procedures as prescribed by a LIP. This job labels all medications per institutional protocol. Evaluating images for technical quality, ensuring proper identification is recorded. This job identifies and escalates emergency situations and managing until appropriate LIP, EMS, MERT, RRT, or Code Team arrives to assume control. This job provides patient education related to imaging procedure. This job eduates, mentors, and oversees students and other learners in the Radiology environment. This job also participates or performs ongoing quality assurance activities.
