Maintain all x-ray equipment, including calibration, QA/QC procedures, and record keeping in accordance with current policy and procedures Medical Assistant Duties Perform Department of Transportation (DOT) and Non-DOT drug and alcohol testing Prepare patients for physical examinations, including taking vital signs and any required or requested ancillary testing including but not limited to vaccines and injections, phlebotomy, PFTs, audiogram testing and respirator fit testing (in accordance with state regulations) Perform rapid screening tests (influenza, strep, mono, glucose, etc.) Assist providers during examination and treatment Responsible for performing routine medical procedures as ordered by treating clinician as well as triaging emergent patients as needed Prepare and assist clinician with procedure set up and injury care Apply bandages, dressings and splints as ordered by the treating clinician Dispense medications and DME as ordered by the treating clinician in accordance with state regulations Complete quality assurance activities on equipment and medical devices as well as testing processes used in the center Maintain supplies, clean rooms and equipment, and stock exam rooms Maintain and operate all medical devices and equipment, including calibration and record keeping in accordance with current policy and procedures Notify supervisor immediately if equipment is not functioning properly, supplies are needed, or facility is not operating as expected In partnership with center leadership, assist with patient flow and volume Keep patients informed of expected wait times during all aspects of the center visit Responsible for clerical tasks in both the front and back office associated with patient care and proper record keeping Ensure accuracy in documentation Perform front office duties: greet patients, obtain authorization, check in/out, communicate wait times, answer multi-line telephone system, and distribute employer results/paperwork as needed Follow HIPAA guidelines and safety rules Attend center staff meetings or huddles as required Assist in maintaining a neat, clean, and orderly appearance throughout the facility Complete any applicable training including but not limited to clinical competency training that occurs monthly. Responsible for the independent operation of radiology equipment. Perform a wide range of highly technical procedures that requires independent thought, judgment, and discretion. Maintain and utilize equipment and supplies necessary to demonstrate portions of the human body on digital radiography for diagnostic purposes. Serve as liaison between patients, licensed practitioners, and other members of the support team by establishing and maintaining a good rapport and professional relationship. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Prepare and set up x-ray room for patient. Position x-ray equipment and adjust controls to set exposure factors, such as time and distance. Use beam-restrictive devices and patient-shielding techniques to minimize radiation exposure to patient and staff. Determine patients' x-ray needs by reading requests or instructions from physicians. Position patient on examining table and set up and adjust equipment to obtain optimum view of specific body area as requested by physician. Explain procedures to patients to reduce anxieties and obtain cooperation. Make exposures necessary for the requested procedures, rejecting and repeating work that does not meet established standards. Provide students or other technicians with suggestions of additional views, alternate positioning, or improved techniques to ensure the images produced are of the highest quality. Operate digital picture archiving communications systems. Transport patients to or from exam rooms. Provide assistance to physicians or other technologists in the performance of more complex procedures. May operate mobile x-ray equipment. Coordinate work of other technicians or clinical staff when procedures require more than one person. Collect and maintain records of patients examined, examinations performed, patient medical histories, views taken, or technical factors used. Sanitize and clean equipment to assure that sterile or non-sterile supplies, such as contrast materials, catheters, films, chemicals, or other required equipment, are present and in working order or requisition materials. Complete quality control activities, monitor equipment operation, and report malfunctioning equipment to supervisor. Maintain a current file of examination protocols as approved by Medical Director and within the guidelines of the Medical Staff bylaws. Perform general administrative tasks, such as answering phones, scheduling patient appointments, or pulling and filing films. Assist with on-the-job training of new employees or students or provide input to supervisors regarding training performance. Monitor patients' vital signs and notify provider or nurse of any relevant changes. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 1. One (1) year of experience in the operation of diagnostic radiology equipment producing radiographic images. 2. Associate Degree in Radiological Science from an accredited college or university preferred. 3. Current, active, full and unrestricted license as a Radiologic Technician from any state or the District of Columbia. 4. Must be registered/certified with American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT) in Radiologic Technology. 3. Current CPR certification. TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: • Perform and process X-Rays using portable digital (DR) or computed (CR) radiography equipment and submit/transmit them to a Radiologist for interpretation. • Unload portable X-Ray equipment and take into facilities to perform exams ordered by the physician. Must obtain clinically diagnostic, technically competent x-ray images. • Perform EKGs (as needed) and transmit them to a Cardiologist for interpretation. (if required) • Scan exam related paperwork/billing documents on a daily basis per protocol. • Regularly communicate with dispatch and management. • Communicate efficiently and interact professionally with peers, supervisory staff, and clients. • Maintain vehicle and x-ray equipment. REQUIRED SKILLS: • Maintain required State licenses and/or ARRT Certification, health requirements, and operational requirements. • Valid driver's license in the applicable state and in good current standing at all times. • Attend meetings as required. • Connect and disconnect Holter Monitors (if required). • Technologist must care for their equipment in a professional manner. If the orders in the chart are different or if there are no orders in the chart, the exam cannot be completed until the appropriate order is documented in the chart to match the exam listed on the requisition. • The technologist is responsible to ensure they have the correct patient by asking for two patient identifiers, such as their name and date of birth. (DO NOT ASK YES/NO QUESTIONS). If the patient is unable to identify themselves, the NURSE IN CHARGE of the patient must identify. The nurse's name should be documented on the requisition, as well as, in the tech's comments in the verification screen. • Before the patient images are sent to telerad for a reading, the technologist must ensure they have the correct patient images marked with the correct patient information. • Practice the proper radiation protection at all times. Each technologist is issued the appropriate equipment to ensure that the proper radiation protection standards are being met. • The consumption of alcoholic beverages, illegal substances or possession of weapons is prohibited as cited in the Associate Handbook. • Communicate any changes to criminal background and adhere to our drug-free workplace policy as cited in the Associate Handbook • Behave and conduct themselves in a professional and ethical manner according to Our Code of Conduct. • Not refuse to perform an assigned case regardless of its location. • Not call the referral site for purposes other than providing an ETA. • Record all hours worked into timesheet accurately and timely per protocol. • Technologist with company owned, leased, or rented vehicles must properly care for the vehicles in conjunction with the maintenance manager per company policies and procedures. • Technologists must maintain speed limits and traffic rules in accordance to local and state laws when operating a company owned, leased, or rented vehicle - refer to Company Vehicle and Driving Policy. • Technologists with company owned, leased, or rented vehicles are responsible for paying all motor vehicle tickets, including parking and speeding tickets. • Technologists must maintain a valid driver's license at all times and be able to produce the license on demand. It is the responsibility of the technologists to provide a copy of such licenses(s) and/or certificate(s) to the appropriate TridentCare personnel. All associates are subject to periodic driver's license checks. • Technologist must have medical physical examinations and TB screening at time of hire and annually, along with annual infection control in-service.
