Minimum Qualifications
Education: Graduate of an accredited school of radiologic technology; Graduate of an approved program of mammography technology
Licenses/Certifications:
Certified in Basic or Advanced Life Support
Current license or temporary license by the Texas Medical Board (MRT), required
Registered Radiology Technologist by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT-R)
Registered Mammography Technologist by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT-M)
Experience/ Knowledge/ Skills:
Four (4) years of prior experience as an Mammography Technologist
Demonstrates ability to perform quality control and stereotactic exams
Ability to lift and/or maneuver patients in conjunction with others in order to perform job functions
Principal Accountabilities
Performs mammography radiographic exams on patients ensuring compliance with all radiation safety procedures: Prepares patients for exam, explains procedure, administers contrast when necessary, positions patients for the exam, selects appropriate imaging techniques, and ensures technical quality of the images.
Helps maintain appropriate patient flow and ensures delivery of quality services in the imaging department.
Demonstrates excellent technical skills. Acts as a resource and mentor to staff and less experienced technologists. Introduces and demonstrates new techniques to the other technologists.
Reviews incomplete exam list and unsigned report status routinely.
Functions as a liaison between physicians, technologists and department support staff.
Enters and monitors patient data and health history as its pertinent to the exam being performed.
Performs quality assurance on mammography equipment. Recommends equipment modifications. Identifies and helps to resolve equipment malfunctions. Completes initial and renewal application for ACR and any other accreditation.
Maintains safety, environmental, and infection control procedures for the department.
Helps schedule technologists to ensure appropriate staffing for expected patient volume.
Intervenes with patients to help resolve complaints and issues.
Responsible for supply management.
Takes emergency call within the department.
Ensures safe care to patients, staff and visitors; adheres to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary specifications including time management, supply management, productivity and quality of service.
Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skills competency; supports department-based goals which contribute to the success of the organization; serves as preceptor, mentor and resource to less experienced staff.

JOB SUMMARY
The CT/XR Registered Technologist is a full-time Technologist and will be responsible for obtaining high quality radiographic images. This role requires competent operation of radiation producing equipment such as portable rad units, XR, to create diagnostic images. You will need a valid Radiologic Technologist license, CT and XR certification to apply for this Radiology Tech position.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The technologist must be able to effectively explain the procedure to the patient and be sure they are relaxed and at ease during the exam and provide care to the patients while obtaining diagnostic quality images for interpretation by a Radiologist.
Prepares patient for radiological procedure by positioning patient; adjusting immobilization devices; moving equipment into specified position; adjusting equipment controls to set exposure factors.
Maintains radiology supplies inventory by checking stock to establish inventory level; anticipating needed supplies; placing and expediting orders for supplies; verifying receipt of supplies.
Identifies opportunities for corrective action and process improvement providing recommendations and contributes to meeting department and hospital targets for quality and safety. Reports "near misses" and inputs errors promptly into appropriate hospital patient safety reporting system to improve processes and identify trends. Utilizes critical thinking skills to observe and proactively address patient reactions (i.e. contrast media and medications) or potential outcomes, as appropriate.
Ensures all imaging equipment has had quality control (QC) performed as required and is in safe working order prior to use. Reports any malfunctions to management and regularly practices preventative maintenance procedures; calls for service if needed.
Performs visual preventative maintenance checks of all assigned equipment at the beginning and end of each shift. Records and reports maintenance requirements to appropriate staff.
Helps maintain an effective Performance Improvement, Q/A & Q/C program in compliance with Joint Commission, Texas DSHS, IAC and/or ACR
Reviews exposed radiographs ensuring proper positioning, techniques and identification are obtained per protocol. Documents all exams/procedures in logbooks and enters charges in patient's EMR.
Able to perform high quality radiology procedures according to exam protocol in a timely manner.
Able to explain the procedure and put patients at ease.
Able to provide services in a timely, accurate, and cost-efficient manner in compliance with established System and regulatory standards, policies and procedures.
