Definition of Position:
Provides health care services by applying x-ray energy to assist in diagnosis or treatment. Performs radiographic procedures and related techniques, producing images for interpretation by, or at the request of, a licensed practitioner. Exercises professional judgment in the performance of services and maintains a demeanor complementary to medical ethics. Provides appropriate patient care and recognizes patient conditions essential for the successful completion of procedures.
Essential Job Functions:
Performs Diagnostic Radiography Procedures:
Corroborates the patient's clinical history with the procedure, ensuring relevant information is documented and available to the licensed practitioner.
Prepares patients for procedures; provides instructions to obtain desired results, gain cooperation, and minimize anxiety.
Selects and operates radiographic equipment and associated devices to achieve diagnostic results.
Positions the patient and equipment to best demonstrate the anatomical area of interest, respecting the patient's abilities and comfort.
Immobilizes patients as required to obtain appropriate imaging.
Determines exposure technique factors, minimizing radiation exposure to the patient and others.
Evaluates images for technical quality and ensures proper identification is recorded.
Verifies informed consent and assists a licensed practitioner with interventional procedures.
Practices aseptic techniques as needed.
Assumes responsibility for the patient's physical and emotional needs during procedures.
In accordance with state statutes and/or institutional policy: prepares, identifies, and/or administers contrast media and/or medications as prescribed by a licensed practitioner.
Initiates basic life support (BLS) when necessary.
Assists a licensed practitioner with fluoroscopic and specialized interventional radiography procedures.
Qualifications:
Education:
Completion of a formal, accredited Radiologic Technology program.
Certifications:
Licensed in the State of Oregon as a Radiologic Technologist
Certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in Radiography, or equivalent
Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
Physical Requirements:
Must be in good general health.
Must be able to bend, stoop, reach, and occasionally lift 100 pounds or more.
Frequent sitting and/or standing throughout the work shift is required.
Occasional lifting of supplies and/or equipment.
Manual dexterity and mobility are essential.

Ensure patient information is accurately input into electronic medical record, including Radiology Information System (RIS). Arrive, select current account and complete patient for the appropriate procedure, as directed in the RIS. Establish patients identification by following organizational identification policy. Observe patient during procedures and reports any unusual occurrences or changes in patients condition to appropriate personnel. Ascertain allergy status on patients. Respond appropriately to contrast reactions as outlined in Policy and Procedure Manual.
Provide timely, responsive, expert services to customers in a positive friendly manner, to include patient, physicians, and other employees. Inform patients and those accompanying them when delays exist and how they are being addressed. Promote patient focused care throughout daily activities. Provide quality patient care to include preparation, scheduling, description of exam, communication of pain expectation, and teaching all types of patient procedures as needed. Maintain strict patient and employee confidentiality, as appropriate. Communicate to the patient when they will be receiving their results.
Maintain safe radiation levels at all times to minimize exposure to patient, self, and others. Follow written Policy and Procedure Manual on radiation safety rules. Perform all necessary equipment checks prior to use, thereby protecting patient and staff safety. Ensure patient and regulatory standards are adhered to and suggests ways to improve patient outcomes when indicated. Completes quality assurance, quality control and radiation safety activities as appropriate.
Arrive at the start of the assigned shift ready to begin work; take lunch and break at appropriate times, and leave work at the end of the assigned shift. Maintain neat, clean and stocked Radiology room. Able to assist lead technologist or radiology leadership by coordinating new employee training and orientation, and identifying staff training issues, able to assist lead technologist in monitoring work flow and assigning tasks to other staff to address issues and participating in operational policy and procedures development as appropriate. Communicate concerns as appropriate to lead technologists and management. Work as an effective team member with other colleagues, both on and off-site to efficiently perform radiological procedures. Maintain safe radiation levels at all times to minimize exposure to patient, self, and others. Follow written Policy and Procedure Manual on radiation safety rules. Ensure patient and regulatory standards are adhered to and suggests ways to improve patient outcomes when indicated. Arrive at the start of the assigned shift ready to begin work; take lunch and break at appropriate times, and leave work at the end of the assigned shift. Maintain neat, clean and stocked Radiology room. Able to assist lead technologist or radiology leadership by coordinating new employee training and orientation, and identifying staff training issues, able to assist lead technologist in monitoring work flow and assigning tasks to other staff to address issues and participating in operational policy and procedures development as appropriate. Communicate concerns as appropriate to lead technologists and management. Work as an effective team member with other colleagues, both on and off-site to efficiently perform radiological procedures. Position Summary
Under the broad direction of the Radiologist, the Radiology Technologist II performs radiographic examinations of selected portions of the anatomy as requested by an authorized, licensed practitioner. This role is expected to rotate between Diagnostic Radiology and Computed Tomography (CT), and perform a variety of procedures with the knowledge and ability to apply a prescribed amount of radiation for the purpose of obtaining diagnostic-quality radiographs on all ages of patients. As a Radiology Technologist II performing in CT, performs CT (computerized tomography) examinations of selected portions of the anatomy as requested by the practitioner. The Radiology Technologist II is expected to perform a variety of CT procedures with the knowledge and ability of obtaining diagnostic-quality examinations on all ages of patients.
Essential Responsibilities
1. Performs radiologic and CT procedures per established protocols.
2. Obtains patient medical history and clinical data for correlation with the imaging study, and enters such data into the Radiology Information System (RIS)
3. Administers I-Stat testing as appropriate. Documentation of I-Stat results completed in computer system per department protocol.
4. Proficient in venipuncture, and administering IV radiopharmaceuticals and/or contrast materials following established department policies and procedures.
5. Administers first aid as required and assist in cases of adverse reaction to contrast or other emergencies.
6. Measures, calculates, and records radiation dosage for radiopharmaceuticals received, used and disposed of, using computer system and following physician's prescription.
7. Upon completion of patient imaging procedure, the technologist will review the images and associated data in PACS for accuracy and assures all images are available for Radiologist dictation.
8. Follows quality assurance guidelines and maintains accurate records for Washington State regulatory requirements.
9. Understands and follows all safety policies and reports any unsafe conditions or practices to the Supervisor/Manager, Administration or Safety Coordinator.
10. Assumes responsibility of self and others for proper and efficient operation of all equipment used. Report equipment problems, malfunctions, and/or need for repairs to supervisor. Maintain cleanliness of equipment for patient safety and/or function.
11. Obtains, maintains, and utilizes knowledge as is necessary for efficient and effective operational utilization of required computer systems.
12. Evaluates and maintains an appropriate level of responsibility for updating job related knowledge and skills level, including applicable Joint Commission requirements, in an effort to increase individual skills and quality patient care.
13. Measures, calculates, and selects proper technical factors in order to arrive at optimal image exposure.
14. Interprets data gathered in assessment and provides care appropriate to age related needs.
15. Positions and handles patients with a high degree of professional ethics, care, tact, courtesy, patience and safety while utilizing supportive and immobilization equipment appropriately.
16. Utilizes radiation protective shielding for maximum protection of self and patient.
17. Critiques images to ensure quality radiographic examinations consistent with standardized procedures.
18. Through attitude and example, demonstrate Memorial's expectations for customer service and utilizes QA memos for improved service to patients.
19. Rotates working hours and various shifts as assigned.
20. Evaluates and maintains an appropriate level of responsibility for updating job related knowledge and skills level, including applicable Joint Commission requirements, in an effort to increase individual skills and quality patient care.
21. Explores opportunities for new equipment and/or new services and then making recommendations to Manager and/or Supervisor.
22. Performs other related duties as assigned/required.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
Education: Graduate of a Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) accredited education program required.
Experience: Two years of experience in Radiology and CT preferred.
Licenses/Certificates/Registration: American Heart Association BLS required. Registration with American Registry of Radiologic Technologist in Radiology and CT required. Washington State (DOH) Certified Radiology Technologist licensure required.

Maintains neat, clean and well stock radiology room with no exceptions. Identifies staff training issues and participates in policy and procedures development as appropriate. Communicates concerns as appropriate to lead technologists and management.
