Position Summary
The Equipment Operator's primary function is to operate heavy equipment at the site of work to construct, repair and maintain the railroad track. Operators are also expected to assist in other duties around the job site as needed. This position is considered as a novice level.
Primary/Essential Responsibilities and Duties
* Inspects, maintains, and operates maintenance equipment such as backhoes and loaders.
* Operates equipment to move, load, or unload material or perform other rail related maintenance tasks.
* Operates equipment in a safe and efficient manner in accordance with regulations, policies, and procedures.
* Takes actions to avoid potential hazards and obstructions, such as utility lines, other equipment, other workers, and falling objects.
* While operating equipment, communicate with others using verbal and non-verbal hand signals.
* Complies with Company Safety Program
* Keeps records of material and equipment usage and problems encountered.
* Performs equipment safety, maintenance, and brake checks.
* Fill out daily inspection report and turn into foreman on a daily basis.
* Complete job briefs throughout the day as necessary with other employees in/around machine and work area.
* Coordinates machine actions with other activities, positioning or moving loads in response to hand or audio signals from crew members.
* Locates underground services, such as pipes and wires, prior to beginning work.
* Repairs and maintains equipment (including daily greasing), making emergency adjustments as necessary.
* Studies instructions, plans, and diagrams to establish work requirements.
Required Skills and Qualifications
* A minimum of one year experience operating heavy equipment in a construction environment.
* Driver's license, reliable transportation, and available to travel.
* Knowledge of and ability to adhere to safety requirements and procedures
* Ability to read and understand construction specifications.
* Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

* Operate the mixer truck, discharge the concrete.

Quality control:
* Take moisture samples*
* Calculate water/cement ratio and know the capability of our mixes.

The Estimator is the individual responsible for preparing designated tasks for bids, cost estimates and proposals assigned by the Office Chief Estimator or Senior Estimator leading the bid, in accordance with Ames Values and Strategic Plan. Qualifications & Skills
* 3-7 years' experience in general engineering construction.
* Bachelor's degree in Construction, Engineering, or Construction Management, or equivalent experience.

* Possess a positive attitude.
* Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills to interface with owner representatives, engineering firms, subcontractors, other team members, and senior management.
