What You'll Do Jobsite Startup Support * Travel to new project locations for 1-3 weeks to reduce startup pressure on construction teams. (roughly 2-6 times per year) * Secure short and long-term housing for crews: research options, meet with landlords, negotiate terms, and finalize agreements. * Assist with move-in tasks such as coordinating furniture, household essentials, utilities, cleaning, etc. * Establish jobsite travel and housing procedures for incoming team members. * Support onboarding logistics for new projects and new hires. Serve as a resource. Both locally and remotely, to remove logistical burdens from project teams. Executive & Operational Support * Manage calendars, meeting prep, follow-ups, and communication for RLW Operation's senior leadership. * Prepare and maintain spreadsheets, trackers, logs, and reports that support operations. * Assist in assembling presentations, packets, and documentation for leadership, team and clients. * Assist in coordinating company events and training sessions. * Perform miscellaneous tasks and data-related work to help the operations team stay ahead. * Build and maintain strong working relationships with project managers, superintendents, field teams, clients and vendors. The operator is responsible for the set up and tear down, operation, maintenance and record keeping of portable concrete batch plants. In addition to operating the plant, the operator will assist with the coordination of daily plant activities such as scheduling truck drivers and ordering plant materials. Operates concrete plant to batch materials used in Highway and bridge construction. Manages controls on control board to heat, dry, weigh and mix aggregate, cement, and water to produce concrete that conforms to processing specifications. May require the ability to repair machinery, using hand tools, power tools, and welding equipment. The following task are broken down into job responsibilities. Other duties may be assigned. Batch Concrete: * Calibrate batch plant (daily) * Fill aggregate hoppers, refill as needed. * Schedule filling aggregate bunkers and cement silo. * Keep area around batch plant clean * Maintain batch plant (grease bearings, replace conveyor belts,) Operate mixer truck: * Operate the mixer truck, discharge the concrete. * Clean the mixer truck * Maintain mixer truck (check oil coolant/antifreeze daily, grease rollers regularly. * Chip out inside of mixer truck as needed. Quality control: * Take moisture samples* * Calculate water/cement ratio and know the capability of our mixes. * Take test cylinders of concrete* * Break test Cylinders* * Keep records of all testing and batch tickets* * Know the admixtures we use and what their capabilities are. This position could be working on your own or overseeing a survey crew - the responsibilities could change depending on the assignment. The hours (40-70+ hours a week) will be long and the ideal candidate needs to be willing to work at least 6 days a week during the summer months (peak construction season). * Acts as party chief for a field survey crew engaged in making plane and/or geodetic surveys for construction, topographic, right-of-way, and control survey projects. * Participates in pre-survey planning meetings with project managers, resident engineers, and contractor representatives. * Assigns and monitors work, and provides input for evaluation of members of field survey crew. * Instructs and trains survey crew in survey and mapping methods, use of equipment, and field safety procedures. * Gathers field survey data through use of conventional and Global Positioning System (GPS) methods. * Sets up, adjusts, and operates surveying equipment, including electronic total station, data collector, and GPS equipment, in order to measure distances, elevations, and angles. * Prepares field notes and drawings; and performs field surveying for roadway, bridges, and flood control projects, including installing surveying construction stakes, tying out existing intersection ties, and locating or establishing vertical and horizontal control, right of way, monuments, corners, boundaries, and property lines. * Performs complex surveying calculations using engineering calculator, laptop computer, personal computer, and graphics and coordinate geometry (Cogo) software, such as AutoCad-Softdesk, Trimble Business Center. * Prepares finished grade sheets, topographic maps, records of survey, corner records, and other survey reports. * Maintains field data records, survey project files, and indexing systems. * Ensure compliance with contract specifications. * Represents Company in project meetings, client meetings, etc. * Proactively upholds all safety polices and standards. * Build, develop, and grow any business relationships vital to the success of the project. * Maintains strict adherence to Company policies and procedures. * Leads and directs the work of others. * Assumes additional responsibilities as directed. * 2-3 years of paraprofessional survey construction experience, including at least one year as a Senior level party chief. * Knowledge of field's concepts, practices, and procedures associated with surveying. * Proven track record of relying on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. * Ability to read, (in English) analyze and respond to technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. * Strong survey skills with ability to prioritize and manage multiple initiatives simultaneously. * MUST be willing to work alone; nights, weekends, and be willing to travel. This role will assist with the coordination of trucking and material hauling activities on multiple projects, including an internal fleet of trucks and drivers and coordinating with material hauling subcontractors and vendors for additional support. The ideal candidate has a strong commitment to safety and quality and has a proven ability to lead and mentor field teams of 20+ personnel in demanding environments. This role requires knowledge of heavy civil construction practices, DOT/FMCSA regulations, cost control, planning, and execution of work plans. The candidate must be skilled in coordinating with project teams, subcontractors, and suppliers to maintain project progress and ensure compliance with specifications and contractual obligations. Key Duties and Responsibilities Instill Safety as the highest priority across all field activities. Train, develop, and mentor trucking personnel, ensuring strong crew performance. Maintain open and effective communication with project teams. Monitor project schedules and coordinate trucking support sequencing to maintain production goals. Assist in developing and executing work plans, personnel projections, material and equipment needs, and daily/weekly scheduling of trucking support for multiple projects. Identify potential problems, interferences, or schedule delays and collaborate with project management to develop solutions. Qualifications Minimum of 5 years of experience in heavy civil and/or mining construction with oversight of trucking activities preferred. 3 or more years in a supervisory role (Superintendent, General Foreman, Foreman). Strong knowledge of mass earthwork, heavy equipment operations, material hauling and civil construction methods. Knowledge of DOT/FMCSA, Federal, State and Local laws with regards to driver and truck safety compliance. Experience leading and managing crews of 20 or more employees and subcontractors. Understanding cost management, production tracking, planning, and scheduling. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Excellent attention to detail with the ability to identify and correct discrepancies. Positive attitude with strong leadership and motivational skills. Effective time management, multitasking, and prioritization abilities. Valid Driver's License required. Working Conditions Travel: Required-primary assignments within Utah. Lead the creation and management of 3D models using VDC/BIM technologies to support estimating and constructability reviews on complex heavy civil projects. The Construction Management and Civil Engineering Intern is responsible for assisting the Project Management, Field Supervision and/or Estimating departments on a construction project either at the project site or divisional office. Working side by side with experienced Project Managers, Field Supervision, and/or Estimators provides an excellent environment for both academic and career growth. The intern will be responsible for assisting project engineering, project accounting, and superintendent staff with daily duties including but not limited to: managing project document flow, taking progress photos of jobsite, submittal review and approval process, RFI process, change management process, and any other duties specific to each jobsite.
