However, according to co-CEOs Todd Graves (who founded the concept in 1996) and AJ Kumaran, there is a much bigger driver behind the chain’s success–its people.

The first Raising Cane’s® opened in 1996.

When he started his business in 1996, he contacted SCORE for financial and marketing advice.

An area devasted by Hurricane Katrina in 2005, Todd and Gwen donated nearly $400,000 to benefit several community organizations and established the Cane’s Plaquemine Parish Relief Fund.

2007

In 2007, Graves was recognized as one of the “Top 100 Movers and Shakers” by Fast Casual magazine.

2009

In 2009, the company gave more than $1 million to the communities that house its restaurants.

As of July 2020, certain locations had reopened their dining rooms, although Graves said the company was in no rush to do so on the full scale.

In 2021, in response to a shortage of workers the company began dispatching hundreds of corporate employees to work in its resturaunts as cooks and cashiers, in addition to their existing duties regarding the hiring of new employees.
