He started a small hardware store in downtown Nairobi in 1948 and that was the humble beginnings of what is now the Ramco Group.

It is also a Siebel Alliance Partner and provides CRM implementation services to global customers.The company has got transferred the assets of erstwhile software business division of Ramco Industries effective from April 1 1999 for the purpose for which it was originally established.
Other Ventures: In 2000, RCL acquired Gokul Cements situated in Mathod in Karnataka whose capacity is 2.90 lakh tons per annum.
In 2002, a state-of-art Dry Mortar plant was commissioned near Sriperumpudur, Tamilnadu which manufactures dry mortar, cement based putty and tile fix compound.
With the help of M.Tec Germany the company started new project Dry Motor Plant for manufacture of high technology construction products such as render skimcoat and dry concrete and its production commenced from January of the year 2003 at Sriperumbudur.
As at March 2008 Madras Cements lines up Rs 15 billion expansion.
On 16 August 2017 Ramco Cements announced the closure of share buyback.
