Summary: This position provides instrument and electrical technical support to construction, plant facilities and field operations. The position will repair, install, troubleshoot, and perform predictive and preventative maintenance tasks on control systems, natural gas compression or pump stations, SCADA, and other equipment contained within gas and liquid facilities and pipelines. Additionally, this position will inspect, troubleshoot, and maintain process control systems such as PLCs or DCS and other similar equipment. Essential Duties: * Install, configure, and maintain industrial automation hardware, including PLC modules, I/O cards, communication networks, and field instrumentation. * Perform advanced troubleshooting on instrumentation loops, control systems, and automation networks to quickly resolve system faults and minimize downtime. * Conduct routine calibration and verification of transmitters, control valves, analyzers, and safety instrumentation to ensure measurement accuracy and compliance. * Execute preventive and predictive maintenance on all instrumentation and control assets using CMMS work order systems. * Support the integration of SCADA system upgrades, network expansions, and communication protocol conversions (Ethernet/IP, Modbus, Profibus, etc.). * Assist engineering teams in developing and implementing SIL (Safety Integrity Level) and functional safety requirements for critical control systems. * Perform loop checks, I/O verification, and functional testing during system startups, shutdowns, and plant turnarounds. * Inspect, maintain, and troubleshoot control valves, actuators, positioners, solenoids, and pneumatic systems for proper operation. * Ensure all instrumentation installations follow NEC, ISA, and NEMA guidelines, with proper wiring, shielding, and environmental protection. * Maintain instrumentation spare parts inventory and recommend upgrades or replacements to enhance system reliability. * Participate in HAZOPs, PSSRs, MOCs, and other process safety activities by providing instrumentation-focused technical expertise. * Support cybersecurity safeguards on automation systems by assisting with patching, network segmentation, and access control procedures. * Document all maintenance activities, calibration records, wiring changes, and control logic modifications for audit readiness and traceability. * Provide 24/7 technical support or on-call coverage during critical operations, outages, or equipment failures as required. * Train operators and maintenance personnel on equipment functionality, proper use of control systems, and safe troubleshooting practices. Required Minimum Education/Experience/Certifications: Engineering Technician II position candidate must possess a high school diploma with at least one (1) year of directly related work experience per the requirements listed above. Requirements of an Engineering Technician III position include a high school diploma with at least five (5) years of directly related experience in maintaining and operating industrial pressure systems. Knowledge in pressure system operations at a NASA Facility is strongly desired. Candidate must be capable of working with an assigned team at various MSFC Facilities.
