The hours for this role is 7:00 am to 2:00 pm.
As a part-time Security Ranger, you'll help ensure a safe and welcoming environment for guests, staff, and animals across the Columbus Zoo and Zoombezi Bay. From assisting visitors to responding to emergencies and monitoring park activity, you'll be a key part of creating memorable, secure experiences for everyone who walks through our gates.
Responsibilities
Enforces rules and regulations to preserve the safety of persons and property and provides public assistance on Zoo and Zoombezi Bay properties.
Communication and Coordination:
Escorts team members with deposits from various Zoo and Zoombezi Bay departments to Finance.
Communicate clearly and professionally using all Zoo radio systems.
Monitor the closed-circuit television system for unusual activity, reporting concerns to the appropriate personnel.
Emergency Response and Safety:
Assist guests and team members with security and safety issues and general information.
Attends to any team members or guests that are injured until medical personnel arrives using trained CPR, ERT and AED zoo practices.
Active participant in the Emergency Response Plan (ERP) and successfully pass a semi-annual ERP test.
Maintains alertness to potentially abnormal conditions and responds appropriately.
Investigates all accidents, to include full documentation for crash reports.
Security and Surveillance:
Patrols Zoo, Zoombezi Bay, and Safari Golf Course grounds during open and closed hours to ensure team member, guest, and animal safety and to assist with guest questions.
Patrols parking lots and directs traffic.
Patrols buildings and grounds in designated areas, checks animal doors and windows for security, locks doors, operate intrusion detection systems, and turns out lights.
Assists Animal Care Department with nightly temperature checks.
Checks all pumps and electrical equipment on park grounds as requested and report operating failure.
Maintains full understanding of Security Check Point and Dispatch operations.
Administrative Duties:
Completes and maintains daily duty log, incident reports, worker's compensation documents, first aid documents and any other required paperwork.
Responsible for maintaining accountability of all issued equipment.
Always maintains the confidentiality of sensitive information.
Successfully pass special response team qualification, semi-annually.

Qualifications
Educational Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Two or Four-year degree in related field or 2 to 4 years of law enforcement, military or relevant experience preferred.
Communication:
Strong verbal and written communication skills required.
Technical Skills:
Minimum of 1 year of security or related experience required.
First aid, CPR, ERT, and AED certification required within 6 months of placement in position.
Ability to think and act quickly, with good judgment, in all situations, including emergencies.
Basic computer skills preferred.
Other Requirements:
Ability to be alert to potentially abnormal conditions.
Ability to successfully pass a semi-annual Emergency Response Plan test required.
Ability to successfully pas a special response team (SRT) qualification semi-annually
Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends and holidays required.
Ability to plan and organize work in an efficient and cost-effective manner and without direct supervision required.
Ability to provide excellent guest service and adhering to organizational standards
Ability to develop and maintain cooperative working relationships with all Columbus Zoo Family of Parks (CZFP) team members and contacts regarding company business required.
Ability to adhere to standard operating procedures including but not limited to safety protocols required.
Possession of a valid state issued motor vehicle operator's license, and a good driving record required.
Proof of negative TB screening prior to commencing work and annually thereafter required.
Ability to adhere to the CZFP drug-free workplace policy including but not limited to pre-employment, random, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, and follow-up treatment required.
Ability to successfully complete a criminal history background check annually required.

- Maintain grounds by cleaning and removing litter, snow removal from walkways and driveways, planting grass and landscaping, mowing, and cleaning drainage ditches and culverts
- Perform minor repairs and upkeep of facilities and equipment as needed
- Assist with setting up and breaking down outdoor event spaces and activities
- Ensure safety protocols are followed during all maintenance and groundskeeping activities
- Maintain inventory of tools and supplies necessary for grounds and facility maintenance

Requirements
- Prior experience in groundskeeping, maintenance, and/or a related field preferred
- Ability to operate basic landscaping and maintenance equipment
- Ability to manager projects with strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions
- Good customer service and communication skills and ability to collaborate with team members
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
