We offer plenty of opportunities for personal growth and professional development. Pay and Benefits: Competitive Pay: Starting pay for a new Communications Officer is $42,619.20 a year. Lateral Communications Officers are highly encouraged to apply with starting wages dependent on experience. We offer paid overtime. Communications Officers are eligible to receive predetermined hourly increases for certifications and educational degrees. Paid Insurance Premiums: The City of Rawlins pays all employee insurance premiums, a savings of $320 a month and $3840 a year for a family. Pension: You are eligible for a 20-year retirement at 50% of your top five earning years, 62.5% at 25 years, and 75% after 30 years. No State Income Tax: Citizens of Wyoming do not pay personal or corporate state income taxes, no retirement income taxes, and enjoy low property and sales tax rates. Paid Academy: All new Communications Officers will attend the Wyoming Law Enforcement Academy. The communications officer's responsibilities will include analyzing and transmitting appropriate information to law enforcement, fire, ambulance and other personnel. Communications Officers are responsible for answering 911 lines and non-emergent lines and taking the appropriate action for the caller by dispatching the appropriate agency. To be successful as a communications officer, you should have the ability to remain level-headed in stressful situations. An outstanding Communications Officer should be intuitive and able to exercise sound judgment. Record calls and activities Maintains records of cases and activities Maintain confidential information Interviewing callers to determine their needs Operates NCIC/NLETS computer terminal and auxiliary equipment, pagers, computers, and a wide variety of office equipment Provides general assistance to the public in preparing complaints and reports and in providing information Responding to emergency and non-emergency situations.
