Lyon was a small, family company started in 1840 by George Lyon in the rural upstate village of Greene, NY. Though its roots go back more than 175 years, the Raymond Corporation considers itself to be only 94 years old this year.
On June 1, 1922, my grandfather, George G. Raymond, Sr. took over as president of Lyon Iron Works.
Back in 1922, George Raymond Sr., an efficiency engineer, bought a foundry in the small town of Greene, New York.
In 1939, George Raymond and William House patented the first double-sided pallet and changed the way materials were handled forever.
George Raymond Sr. and Christian D. Gibson were granted a patent for the power-driven, narrow aisle material handling truck in 1951 — pioneering the narrow aisle concept.
