Raymond company history timeline

1840

Lyon was a small, family company started in 1840 by George Lyon in the rural upstate village of Greene, NY. Though its roots go back more than 175 years, the Raymond Corporation considers itself to be only 94 years old this year.

1922

On June 1, 1922, my grandfather, George G. Raymond, Sr. took over as president of Lyon Iron Works.

Back in 1922, George Raymond Sr., an efficiency engineer, bought a foundry in the small town of Greene, New York.

1939

In 1939, George Raymond and William House patented the first double-sided pallet and changed the way materials were handled forever.

1951

George Raymond Sr. and Christian D. Gibson were granted a patent for the power-driven, narrow aisle material handling truck in 1951 — pioneering the narrow aisle concept.

1966

Founded in 1966 in Effingham, IL, from modest beginnings, Bahrns established a reputation as one of central Illinois’ most trusted material handling equipment and supply companies.

1986

As technology rapidly improved, The Raymond Corporation launched the first microprocessor-controlled lift truck in North America in 1986.

1991

The ergonomically advanced control handle was introduced by The Raymond Corporation in 1991.

2001

Raymond introduced the first AC-powered Reach-Fork® truck built in North America in 2001, on the 50th anniversary of the first narrow aisle truck.

2007

In partnership with hydrogen fuel cell manufacturers and our customers, The Raymond Corporation began the research and development of the application of fuel cells to battery-powered lift trucks in 2007, and developed the industry's first fuel cell-compatible orderpicker truck.

2008

In 2008 The Raymond Corporation introduced iWAREHOUSE, the industry's most comprehensive, customizable fleet optimization system.
