The Precision Control Actuation System (PCAS) department is seeking a mechanical engineer to lead the development, build, and verification of control actuation systems. What You Will Do At this grade level, you will be expected to work autonomously, have expert or mastery level knowledge of the Systems Engineering domain, exercise strategic vision to influence functional and organizational strategies of the PCAS organization beyond assigned program work, and coach and review the work of other professionals. Support may include but is not limited to detailed systems design, test design and execution, systems engineering, proposals and estimates, or earned value management. In this position, the candidate will be responsible for developing technical solutions for a wide range of high performance actuation system and motion control challenges, such as aerodynamic steering, thrust vectoring, attitude and divert maneuvering, pointing, and stabilizing of missile systems & subsystems. Responsibility extends across the entire life cycle of the product, from conceptualizing and design, to prototyping and manufacturing, integration and verification testing, through production support. You will be expected to apply sound systems engineering principles to define and solve complex system problems while teaming with a cross-discipline team including electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, control systems engineering, software and firmware engineering, manufacturing engineering, supply chain and others. The position will lead requirements development for actuation systems, sub-units, modules and software/firmware; define and develop systems tools and processes for actuation systems; champion the development of Modular Open System Architecture (MOSA) standards; lead Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) development for actuation systems; develop standardized actuation system architectures with modularity, scalability and adaptability; institutional standardized verification methods and approaches for Design Verification Testing, Qualification Testing and Acceptance Test; champion re-usable and scalable design and development documents to maximize cross-program efficiency. The candidate working with the multi-disciplinary actuation team will implement these systems engineering practices on program applications and implement continuous improvement methodologies to increase efficiency and eliminate systemic issues. Day-to-day activities are highly collaborative, both internally across disciplines as well as externally with suppliers, partners and customers. Hands-on opportunity is plentiful, as great emphasis is put on exposing designers to the hardware through participation in prototype building and verification testing, thus enabling firsthand knowledge of system performance. Assigned responsibilities could grow to include a team leadership role of a major hardware subsystem on a specific program or across several programs. In this role, accountability for technical success across disciplines (systems, mechanical, electrical, controls systems, software, integration, etc.), risk management, system integration into the overall final assembly, and adherence to cost and schedule commitments would be required. Radar Systems Field Engineering will be staffing a Contractor Logistics Support (CLS) THAAD Systems Engineer in support of the THAAD KSA Program. The THAAD Systems Engineer will support a deployed Field Engineering team supporting the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) Radar System. ACTIVE SECRET SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIRED and will require a US Expat to forward deploy to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) under the terms of a Long-Term International Assignment Memorandum of Understanding (LTIA MOU). What You Will Do: Prior to deployment, the Systems Engineer will be assigned to El Paso, TX where they will receive the appropriate amount of AN/TPY-2 systems classroom and/or on the job training (OJT) based on the experience level of the selected candidate. Once complete, the THAAD Systems Engineer will support testing and integration efforts at either White Sands Missile Range, NM or Pelham, NH. Also, the Systems Engineer may and will likely provide backfill support for other personnel assigned to deployed THAAD KSA Radars OCONUS with little notice. Once deployed, the CLS Systems Engineer will support a Radar team consisting of three Field Engineers assigned to the radar system. Responsibilities include: Troubleshooting and resolving radar system anomalies (e.g. REX, BSG, Antenna/Sub-Array/TRIMMs) using engineering test methodologies and software tools. Interpreting diagnostics and satellite tracks to assess overall health of the radar as well as assist in providing weekly reports on the status of engineering. Executing data archival and assisting in software installation; complying with all QA and ALCS reporting requirements associated with providing accurate and complete data. Providing support for configuration management of hardware and software; and leading troubleshooting efforts as needed or directed by CLS Manager. Reviewing all ALCS program data to ensure that all required data has been entered to include ITR's, calibration records, PMCS, and contains sufficient information for Failure Review Board evaluations. Utilize your experience with LINUX or other UNIX based OS platforms (Solaris, HP-UX, etc.) Provide engineering assessment and corrective actions on faulted equipment, and installation and testing of engineering modifications/updates. Conduct performance assessments, troubleshooting, and analysis of Radar systems. Perform data analysis utilizing Matlab tools. Proficiency with Matlab is desired. Maintain comprehensive documentation of integration and testing procedures, results, and issues. Utilize MS Office Products (Excel, PowerPoint and Word). In summary, the Radar Systems Engineer is responsible for the health and status of the radar. What You Will Learn: The selected candidate will develop an advanced knowledge and proficiency in AN/TPY-2 Systems Engineering support, concepts of operation, maintenance, and procedure implementation.
