1879

1879: The Kentucky Wagon Manufacturing CompanyKentucky Trailer traces its roots all the way back to 1879, when the Kentucky Wagon Manufacturing Company was founded in Louisville, Kentucky.

1916

1916: Kentucky Wagon Manufacturing Joins the Automobile AgeNever a company to rest on its laurels, the Kentucky Wagon Manufacturing Company was mindful of changing tides in America’s growing transportation needs.

1963

Western Truck and Trailer (WTT) opened in 1963 as a trailer repair facility in Los Angeles, California.

1987

In 1987, the business moved to Fontana, California, a growing hub for the trucking industry, to better serve its clients.

2001

In April of 2001, Kentucky Trailer opened its first service and reconditioning facility in Louisville, Kentucky.

2003

In 2003, Kentucky Manufacturing acquired Trailer Technologies of Walled Lake, Michigan, marking our entry into the specialty vehicle segment.

2006

2006: New Management and Ownership4th generation R.C. Tway family ownership and leadership transition occurred.

2009

At that site--which remained the company's primary manufacturing facility until June 2009--the Dixie Flyer motor car was designed and built.

2014

In January of 2014, Kentucky Trailer became a majority owned subsidiary of Alleghany Capital Corporation with the Tway family maintaining an on-going ownership interest.

In 2014, Kentucky Trailer announced the acquisition of Advanced Mobility & Shelter Technologies (AMST) and a complementary mobile medical field service operation.

2015

In October of 2015, Kentucky Trailer acquired SMIT Mobile Equipment B.V. based in the Netherlands and the SMIT service center in the United Kingdom.

2016

February 2016: Advanced Mobility by Kentucky Trailer ExpandsAdditionally, Advanced Mobility - Monee, IL, opened a new 75,000 sq. ft. facility in University Park, IL, expanding its finish, calibration and reconditioning capacity.

2018

In October of 2018, Kentucky Trailer consolidated two facilities in Michigan into a 132,000-square-foot facility in Wixom, MI. The Wixom facility increases manufacturing capacity and improves efficiencies in fabrication and finishing.
