Dave and Gail Liniger founded RE/MAX in Denver, Colo., in 1973, prompted by their dissatisfaction with the way real estate business was conducted at the time.
In 1975, the network expanded outside Colorado, when Dennis Curtin purchased a franchise in Kansas City.
In 1978, the company adopted its official balloon logo, a remarkable trademark symbolic of the phenomenal ascension of RE/MAX in real estate circles.
Introduced in Québec in 1982 by Pierre Titley, President of RE/MAX Québec Inc., RE/MAX has expanded at lightning speed ever since the first agency opened in May 1982.
In May 1982, a first group of brokers makes its debut under the RE/MAX banner.
RE/MAX of Southern Africa, which was founded in 1994, is regarded as the pioneer of the RE/MAX international expansion as it was the first country franchise to be sold outside of North America.
In the United States, RE/MAX closed more than 1 million transaction sides in 1997, becoming the first real estate brand ever to reach that level of annual production.
Unfortunately, the United States housing collapse and global economic crisis that began in 2007 took the real estate industry into its most challenging period in decades.
