Department Overview Reach for Resources is a nonprofit agency based out of Minnetonka, Minnesota. We provide recreation, education, case management, advocacy, and health programs to individuals with disabilities living in the Minneapolis western metro area. Our recreation department contracts with 12 western suburban city park and recreation departments to provide adaptive recreation, inclusion and training services to their community members.
Job Summary Assist the adaptive recreation department in implementing a variety of programs for adults and children with intellectual disabilities. Programs will focus on social skills, independent living, and healthy utilization of leisure time. Assist individuals in accessing local park and recreation programs and reaching their maximum potential for successful inclusion in the community. Locations are throughout the West and Northwest metro.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Assist in the implementation of social, recreation and athletic programs designed for kids and adults with disabilities
Provide inclusion assistance for a child or adult with a disability in a city park and recreation program
Teach park and recreation staff strategies for working with individuals with disabilities
Communicate with parents and caregivers
Maintain proper documentation
Required Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED
Must have current driver’s license in good standing and maintain own reliable transportation
Strong written and oral communication skills
Evening, and weekend availability
Ability to lift up to 30 lbs.
A genuine interest in helping others
A willingness to share your warm personality and sense of humor
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of community inclusion
2+ years post high school education
Group leadership experience
At least 1 year experience working with individuals with disabilities
Ability to work with a flexible schedule and last minute changes to schedule

General Description:
The purpose of this job is to assist with recreation programming and facilities in the City of Rock Hill. This position works under direct supervision according to set procedures.

Ability to assist with custodial duties and minor maintenance needs. Observes safety rules to maintain safe parks and facilities. Participates in cross-training opportunities and performs all other duties as may be assigned to meet organizational needs.

The Recreation Specialist will work as a team member to create and support recreational activities for women living within our homeless shelter. This position reports to Program Director to ensure that all activities are appropriate and meet the needs of the clients. Proof of COVID-19 vaccine is required.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Works as a team member to provide academic, recreational and social skills programming to the women in the Shelter.
- Creates a group environment that promotes and expects positive behavioral norms. Helps create a safe-haven for youth living within the homeless shelter setting.
- Develops and implements age appropriate activities and programs.
- Documents monthly participation and outcomes; analyzes results and prepares recommendations.
- Participates in initial training, ongoing staff development and supervision.
- Maintains proper safety standards in regards to the health of participants in all programs.
- Ensures that the recreational space is clean and well maintained.

EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
High School Diploma/GED required, College degree preferred. Previous experience working with children and/or young adults is essential. Experience working with low-income population preferred. Must enjoy the challenges involved with working with youth who may present a number of academic and social deficits. Upbeat, engaging personality is desirable. Program hours include afternoons, evenings, some weekends and holidays. Must be computer savvy. A clean/valid NYS Driver’s License is required. Must be able to pass child abuse screening and criminal background check.
