    General Job Information This position is located in the Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR), Recreation Services Administration, Aquatics Facilities. The mission of DPR is to provide equitable access to Gold Standard recreational programs, services, and facilities - across all 8 Wards. The incumbent serves as the Pool Facilitator, exercising full authority over the overall operation of the aquatic center. The incumbent plans and organizes core activities, as well as additional programs that align with available resources, participant interests and needs, and the limitations of funding, facilities, equipment, and staff or volunteer support. The aquatic center serves over sixty thousand people. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Plans and coordinates the details of recurring and nonrecurring activities, special events, and joint community undertaking to make maximum use of facilities, services, and other resources. Represents program manager on designated special projects. Schedules and publicizes aquatic activities, ensuring maximum effectiveness in attracting and motivating participants and in providing the widest possible range of activities in terms of community interests and needs. Arranges for supplies and services needed to accomplish scheduled activities. Accounts for all funds involved and makes recommendations for improvements in funding and other support services. Solicits volunteer and other services for activities, which could not be scheduled without such assistance. Interviews and selects volunteers and provides them with the required orientation, training, and management. Coordinates will volunteer activities. Provides guidance and leadership to the various activities and participants, modifying, adapting, expanding, or otherwise changing plans and procedures for such activities. Instructs participants in those activities for which the incumbent has technical expertise. Continuously evaluates the effectiveness of ongoing activities from the standpoint of participant response, resources, unforeseen developments, and program objectives. Informs and advises facility engineers and custodial crews that the physical plant is above standards for community use. Assures that proper mix of chlorine and light soda ash with water at all times. Develops periodic program plans and/or annual budget requirement with supporting data for inclusion in overall program plans formulated at higher organizational levels. QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION Undergraduate and Graduate Education: Major study -- general recreation, or one of the appropriate fields of recreation such as outdoor recreation; recreation and parks leadership; wild land recreation management; natural resources recreation; youth recreation; public, urban, or community recreation; special populations recreation (e.g., senior citizens, institutional, etc.); or physical education. OR Applicants must possess at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level, or its non-District equivalent gained in the private or public sector. Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled and has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities, to perform successfully the duties of the position. LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS The incumbent must possess a current CPR and Lifeguard Certification gained through a full certified Red Cross course, and Instructor Certification. The incumbent must hold a current Certified Pool Operator Permit (CPO) and be in good standing with the Office of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs, Office of license and permits WORKING CONDITIONS/ENVIRONMENT Aquatic recreation activities involve everyday risks or discomforts, which require normal safety precautions. This work area is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated. OTHER SIGNIFICANT FACTS Tour of Duty: Varies, the incumbent must be able to work evenings and weekends. This position requires heavy physical duties on a variety of tasks which are generally either unskilled or semi-skilled in nature. Duties will vary depending on the type of work assigned to crew. Laborer can become a specialist within a crew such as a "Top Person" or a "Pipe Layer" on a pipe crew. Responsibilities: Digs, spreads, and shovels dirt and gravel using pick and or shovel. Lifts, carries and holds building materials, tool and supplies. Cleans tools, materials and work areas. Mixes, pours and spreads concrete, asphalt, gravel, and other material using hand tools. Performs a wide variety of manual tasks including pipe assembly, pipe cutting and laying, removal or forms from set concrete, taking layout shots, directing equipment operators on cuts and fills, etc. Hourly Range: • $21.00 - $24.00 , based on experience.
