Steve Rendle is Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer at VF Corporation. He has more than 30 years of experience in the specialty outdoor and action sports industry, more than half of which have been with VF. From 2004 to 2011, he served as President of The North Face. Steve began his VF career with The North Facein 1999 and shortly afterward was promoted to Vice President of Sales, where he worked to reshape the business' sales organization, product and marketing strategies, and go-to-market model. Before joining The North Face,Steve held leading sales management roles at Youngone Corporation and at W.L. Gore and Associates. Steve serves on the Board of Directors of the Retail Industry Leaders Association, as well as the Board of Directors of Advanced Functional Fabrics of America, Inc., an organization working to enable a manufacturing-based approach to transform traditional fibers, yarns and fabrics into highly sophisticated, integrated, and networked devices and systems. He is a founding board member of the Outdoor Industry's Outdoor Foundation and also has served in an advisory capacity to Bainbridge Graduate Institute where he provided insight into its creation of a Master of Business Administration program with a focused concentration on sustainability. Steve was honored with The Mountain Institute's annual Exemplary Corporate Stewardship of Mountains award in 2007. In 2018, he was named CEO of the Year for his progressive environmental, social and governance agenda by Corporate Responsibility Magazine. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology from the University of Washington.

Pros of working at REI

The benefits are fantastic. Yes, they are great for someone who works in retail, but, these benefits would be fantastic for any employee in any industry. The corporate culture is vibrant and welcoming. Employees (even part-time employees) are eligible for benefits like paid vacation and sick days, 401(k) with a company contribution and bonuses for all employees. REI is an employer who lives its values and I am proud to be a part of the team.

Cons of working at REI

I do wish that base pay was higher. I feel as though I am slightly underpaid but I see it more often with newer employees. The starting rate is a bit low and that makes it difficult for the company to hold onto talent, particularly when it can be difficult for employees to work enough hours during slower times in the year.
