The Role We are seeking a Hardware Product Manager (open level: Product Manager through Principal) to help drive the development of Red 6's next-generation hardware systems. This role will work closely with the VP of Product, our current Director of Product Management, Business Development, Program Management, and Hardware/Firmware Engineering teams to deliver mission-ready solutions. The Hardware PM will take on highly technical decision-making, weighing trade-offs across custom computing platforms, optical stacks for AR, mechanical assemblies, and helmet system configurations. In addition, this role will work closely with R&D to establish technical capability pipelines and translate emerging technologies into productized solutions. This is a unique opportunity to help define the hardware foundation of augmented reality systems that will transform military training. Key Responsibilities * Collaborate with the product management team, customers, and cross-functional leaders to define and define and execute the hardware product roadmap. * Partner with R&D teams to evaluate new technologies, build technical capability pipelines, and transition them into productized solutions. * Lead trade-off analysis and decision-making across computing platforms, optical stacks, helmet configurations, and mechanical subsystems. * Translate complex customer mission needs and operational constraints into precise hardware and firmware requirements. * Work closely with Hardware/Firmware Engineering to ensure product requirements are feasible, testable, and aligned with technical standards. * Drive productization of prototypes into manufacturable, reliable, and scalable systems. * Collaborate with Business Development and Program Management to align hardware deliverables with customer contracts and program milestones. * Define and track KPIs for hardware performance, reliability, safety, and user satisfaction. * Represent the voice of the customer in highly technical discussions, ensuring that engineering trade-offs reflect mission and user needs. * Present product recommendations and updates to leadership and the Product Steering Committee. Experience, Skills, and Qualifications * Bachelor's degree required; BS or higher in a hardware-based engineering discipline strongly preferred. * 5+ years of product management or technical program management experience in hardware-intensive industries (e.g., AR/VR devices, optical systems, robotics, aerospace, defense, or similar). * Hands-on familiarity with hardware development processes including optics, computing platforms, mechanical assemblies, and system integration. * Experience working with cross-disciplinary engineering teams (hardware, firmware, mechanical, and optical). * Proven ability to make technical trade-off decisions across competing constraints of performance, cost, reliability, and manufacturability. * Strong collaboration skills with R&D teams, with experience transitioning technologies from lab to product. * Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills; able to engage both technical and non-technical stakeholders. * Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-complexity environment and make decisions under uncertainty. * Must be able to commute or relocate to Louisville, Colorado. * This position may require a security clearance. Role Summary As the Document Control Technical Writer, you will own the creation, release, governance, and continuous improvement of engineering and quality documentation that enables reliable build, test, and delivery of Red 6 hardware. You'll author and maintain assembly and test procedures, ensure Manufacturing Execution System (MES) content is accurate and usable on the floor, and manage QMS artifacts such as WIs, CARs/SCARs, calibration and preventive maintenance records, and KPI dashboards. You'll be the connective tissue between Engineering, Manufacturing, Test, Supply Chain, and Quality. What You'll Do Engineering & Manufacturing Documentation Author, edit, and version control assembly procedures, test procedures, acceptance test plans (ATPs), travelers, and shop aids from engineering BOMs, drawings, and schematics. Establish clear illustrations, annotated photos, and step sequencing to drive repeatable build quality and cycletime reduction. Partner with Manufacturing/Test Engineers to validate procedures during pilots and NPI builds; capture lessons learned and update revisions rapidly. MES Configuration & Floor Enablement Build and maintain MES routes/operations, data collection forms, e-signatures, defect codes, rework/hold steps, and traceability fields to ISA95 “Level 3” practices (i.e., the layer between ERP and process control). Ensure MES work instructions reflect the latest controlled documents and that operators have point-of-use content (barcodes/links, device history records, serial/lot capture). Partner with IT/OT to triage MES issues and improve usability; champion operator feedback loops. Align MES content and terminology to the MESA model for operations management, where practical. QMS Documentation & Compliance Create and maintain Work Instructions (WIs), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), forms, and process maps consistent with ISO 9001/AS9100D practices. Administer Corrective Action Requests (CARs) and Supplier CARs (SCARs): log issues, coordinate 5Why/8D, track actions to closure, and verify effectiveness. Maintain calibration and preventive maintenance records, manage recall schedules, and document out-of-tolerance investigations. Support internal audits, supplier audits, and external audits; prepare objective evidence and training records. Document Control & Governance Own the document lifecycle-numbering, metadata, drafting, review/approval workflows, release, change control (ECO/MCO), and archival-in SharePoint (and related PLM/eQMS/ERP tools as applicable). Build intuitive SharePoint libraries with security, versioning, and search optimized via content types and required metadata. Minimum Qualifications 3+ years in document control, technical writing, or manufacturing engineering within aerospace, defense, electronics, optics, or other high-reliability hardware manufacturing. Demonstrated experience authoring assembly and test procedures from engineering inputs (drawings, schematics, BOMs); proficient with revision control and redlines. Hands-on experience in configuring or operating MES content (routes/operations, data capture, e-signatures, work instructions) and understanding of ISA95/MESA concepts. Solid familiarity with ISO 9001/AS9100 environments and core QMS processes (WIs/SOPs, CAR/SCAR, calibration, PM, audits). Proficiency with SharePoint for controlled documents and Power BI for dashboards. Able to read engineering drawings (including basic GD&T), interpret electrical/mechanical BOMs, and navigate ERP/PLM records. Red 6 is an innovative Augmented Reality (AR) technology startup leading the way in synthetic air combat training. Our primary technology, supporting our ATARS product, enables pilots to simulate the cognitive challenges of flying while accessing realistic, scalable training in dynamic outdoor environments. The Role As a Lead Electrical Engineer at Red 6, you will play a key role in the design and development of advanced electronics for aerospace applications. You will design high-reliability printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs) capable of withstanding harsh environments and compliant with relevant military standards. You will be responsible for developing hardware that interfaces with aircraft mission systems and safety-critical systems. This work will span the full product lifecycle - from concept and schematic capture to PCB layout, prototyping, bring-up, and transition to production - with a strong focus on quality, reliability, and compliance. You will also ensure that robust electrical engineering processes are followed and continuously improved to maintain consistency, traceability, and compliance across projects. Responsibilities * Lead the architecture, design, development, and integration of electronic hardware for aerospace AR systems. * Own schematic capture, component placement, and PCB layout. * Perform prototyping, hardware bring-up, validation, and transition to production for custom CCAs/PCBAs. * Ensure compliance with environmental, EMC, and MIL-STD requirements for aerospace hardware. * Maintain and improve electrical engineering processes, documentation, and design standards. * Conduct power and signal integrity simulations to ensure design robustness. * Design for and release rigid, flex, and rigid-flex board structures. * Work directly with manufacturing fabrication and assembly houses to ensure quality, manufacturability, and schedule alignment. * Lead design reviews, risk assessments, and trade studies to ensure robust, sustainable designs. * Collaborate with mechanical, software, FPGA, and systems engineering teams to deliver integrated solutions. * Select components based on performance, reliability, availability, and cost considerations. * Debug and troubleshoot complex hardware issues in both development and fielded systems. Qualifications Required: * Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field. * 10+ years of experience in electronics design, with proven delivery of hardware from concept through bring-up and production. * Proven track record in designing high-speed digital hardware for aerospace or similarly regulated industries. * Experience with: * High-speed memory (DDR3/DDR4), PCIe 3.0/4.0, DisplayPort, USB 3.0, Ethernet * MIPI standards * Display and camera system integration * Microcontroller-based designs * FPGA-based designs (AMD/Xilinx preferred) * Power circuit design * Familiarity with design for manufacturability (DFM) and design for test (DFT). * Experience working with manufacturing fabrication and assembly houses. * Experience with power and signal integrity simulation tools. * Proficiency in schematic capture and PCB design tools (Altium Designer preferred). * Skilled in using lab equipment (oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, power supplies). * Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities. Preferred: * Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field. * Experience with aerospace environmental qualification testing (DO-160, MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-461). * Experience with mixed-signal design.
