Communications Duties: (Will be trained to be proficient in the following):
* Receives medical, fire, law enforcement, and related emergency and non-emergency calls for service coming into the Taos County Dispatch center to quickly gather information from callers, while maintaining a professional and calm demeanor.
* Properly utilizes Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system to record/log calls, data and all incoming and outgoing radio transmissions and telephone calls. Accurately enters and maintains logs of radio and telephone communications, location of personnel, equipment, and resources.
* Accurately assesses the nature of the crisis/emergency, the appropriate jurisdiction and services to be rendered, and level/type of response needed; triages and prioritizes action needed to be taken by the appropriate entity or service provider.
* Possess thorough knowledge of the geography of the Town and County, as well as the location of streets, buildings, public safety structures, and landmarks.
* Independently determines, based on local policy and procedure, appropriate jurisdiction and services to be rendered.
* Correctly enters required information using proper grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
* Dispatches appropriate emergency and non-emergency personnel and services in response to each call in a timely manner, and provides complete and accurate information to the responding units.
* Provides pre-arrival instructions to callers on how to deal with emergencies prior to the arrival of response efforts/personnel.
* Performs crisis intervention with distraught emergency callers as needed, during high-risk situations until appropriate emergency field units arrive on scene.
* Interacts with field units professionally over the phone and radio using proper etiquette and utilizing excellent customer service skills.
* Maintains contact with personnel responding to calls, relaying relevant information and providing timely responses to all request for information from authorized personnel and other public safety and law enforcement agencies.
* Monitors all radio traffic while simultaneously listening in the room for pre-alerts to incoming calls, pre-alerting units, and putting units promptly on the scene to maintain system compliance.
* Constantly monitors the system ensuring units are in route to post moves in a timely fashion and making sure other units are within an acceptable distance from post.
* Efficiently operates computer, radio, telephone equipment, may operate pagers; operates a National Crime Information Center (NCIC) computer; the New Mexico Law Enforcement Telecommunications System (NMLETS) system, and other databases to properly assist all personnel and resources, as needed.
* Performs various clerical duties, including but not limited to, completing dispatch logs, correctly documenting incidents and precisely files reports. Properly maintains and updates files, databases, records and/or other documents; may assist in the development and maintenance of data and may perform routine analyses and calculations in the processing of data for internal reports.
* Routinely monitors and inspects equipment; promptly reports equipment malfunctions to the appropriate supervisor/director and outside resources as required/needed.
* Follow all department and County policies and procedures to assure safety and security is the top priority. Attend seminars, training, and workshops in communication/safety related topics as needed. Maintains confidentiality of all privileged information.
* Must maintain a professional telephone and radio demeanor; contribute to a team effort and work well with other employees, responders and the public.

This person will work onsite daily, directing a team that verifies that construction meets design specifications while working alongside the client and various contractors. This is a full-time onsite role with a minimum 2-year commitment, with potential to extend beyond. Qualified candidates will have relevant field experience and a degree in engineering or geology; an associate's degree with strong surveying skills; a professional surveying license; or comparable, relevant work experience meeting job requirements. This role includes leadership, daily interaction with a great client, and seeing years of geotechnical engineering and mine reclamation design fully implemented.
Potential compensation is excellent, with employees regularly receiving 10 or more hours of overtime per week in addition to a housing allowance, meal per diem, and use of a company provided vehicle, all while living and working near picturesque Taos, New Mexico, which is known for its skiing, biking, hiking, fishing and rafting opportunities.

POSITION PURPOSE:
Crew Supervisors are RMYC field-based staff who manage the day-to-day operations of crews of youth and young adults, and are integral to the fulfillment of RMYC's mission. The Crew Supervisor will manage a diverse crew of participants between the ages of 17 to 25 in the safe and efficient completion of conservation projects outdoors, while providing structured opportunities for personal and professional development throughout this season. Often working under minimal supervision, Crew Supervisors exercise discretion and independent judgment on matters relating to the safety, well-being, and performance of crew members in the field. Crew supervisors are trained, empowered, and expected to enforce RMYC and AmeriCorps policies and expected behavior of Corpsmembers in office and the field.
POSITION TYPE: Seasonal, full time, non-exempt
SCHEDULE: Day work, Spike schedule, or Hybrid schedule.Day work schedule is Tuesday-Friday, 7:00am-5:30pm with weekends off. Spike schedule is Tuesday-Tuesday, 7:00am-5:30pm, camping at the project site. Spike is 8 days on shift followed by 6 days off. Hybrid schedule includes both spike work and day work.
HOURLY WAGE: $18.50 per hour before taxes, paid every two weeks. Overtime eligible.

DATES: Jan. 30, 2026 - Nov 13, 2026. 11 weeks paid orientation training followed by project work.

LOCATION: RMYC Taos Office: 1203 King Drive, Taos, NM 87571 with project locations throughout the state.
Participants must have reliable transportation to and from this location, according to their work
schedule for the duration of the season.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Essential Function: Crew Operations
Directly supervise a crew of AmeriCorps members in the completion of projects such as trail construction/maintenance, fencing, invasive species removal, and additional projects as assigned, meeting high standards of safety, quality and efficiency.
Provide on-the-job training and coaching to members to develop necessary project-related skills.
Manage personnel matters with a level of autonomy from staff while in remote areas with limited communication and support channels.
Hold crew accountable to RMYC policy and code of conduct and utilize the discipline spectrum, as needed, with staff support.
If deployed, lead crew during disaster relief work lasting up to 45 days.
Inform RMYC staff and agency partners of important crew developments during formal and informal meetings/debriefs.
Plan for and purchase crew-related food and supplies as needed, with a set budget, and properly document receipts.
Essential Function: Risk Management
Manage crew's physical/emotional well-being and promote a culture of safety in all aspects of crew life.
Safely transport crew to/from project sites in an RMYC vehicle.
Respond to safety concerns with appropriate and timely decisions and action, keeping RMYC staff informed.
Be the primary point of contact in critical situations such as wildfires, medical emergencies, and other unanticipated crises.
Essential Function: Corpsmember Development
Maintain a healthy group dynamic by promoting inclusivity, communication, and conflict resolution.
Facilitate both formal and informal job, college readiness, and life skills training on an ongoing basis.
Serve as a professional role model, upholding RMYC policies and holding members accountable for actions.
Oversee a highly structured, participatory camp environment during spike projects
Essential Function: Corpsmember Management
Review and approve member time cards, directing members on appropriate coding and ultimately approving all member time.
Prepare mid-season and end-of-season member evaluations with the support of RMYC Training Staff.
Enforce RMYC and AmeriCorps policies, prepare corrective action as needed for policy violations up to and including the exit of a corpsmember if needed
Assist in the processing of corpsmember onboarding and exiting paperwork
Essential Function: Independent Leadership and Critical Thinking Skills.
Be adaptable. The nature of spike work in remote areas presents unique challenges that aren't always anticipated, and which may require critical decisions to be made without immediate guidance and/or support from RMYC staff or agency partners.
Make informed decisions in the field to accommodate for changing weather conditions, gear malfunctions, and other unanticipated events.
Make informed safety and work decisions in remote areas with limited communication and support channels.
Manage and coordinate emergency response in remote areas with limited communication and support channels, and where additional resources or evacuation might take hours or days to be coordinated.
Essential Function: Administrative Duties
Prepare detailed, accurate weekly reports (project data, photos, incident reports, job hazard analysis, etc.).
Record and document all personnel matters with incident reports and uphold RMYC's discipline process and expectations.
Submit all receipts in a timely manner as described in RMYC's Receipt Policy.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
21 years of age as of January 30, 2025; valid, insurable driver's license (without major citations).
US Citizen or Permanent Legal Resident
Able to complete entire length of service term (See “Dates” above)
Experience working with youth ages 17 - 25, preferably in a leadership, mentoring or instructional capacity.
Ability to analyze projects with RMYC staff, determine capability of crew to accomplish work assignments and best work methods, appropriate tools, safety methods, and materials.
Experience with building a positive group dynamic; confidence in working with diverse and challenging populations.
Excellent public speaking skills to conduct training sessions and facilitate group discussions.
Good attention to detail and ability to write accurate, thorough correspondence and reports.
Wilderness First Aid (WFA) or WFA certification within 90 days of hire.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Wilderness First Responder or higher medical certification
Two or more seasons of experience with outdoor conservation projects.
Experience with applying Leave No Trace principles.
Two or four-year degree in natural resources, outdoor education, teaching, or related field.
Proficient driving in 4WD conditions and maneuvering with trailers.

JOB DUTIES:
Fire/Rescue Related Duties:
* Respond to emergency alarms and calls for service and preforms fire suppression and rescue duties as required to control emergency situations, relay orders, follows instructions and given orders of ranking officers.
* Operates emergency fire suppression and rescue apparatus, equipment and tools, assists and coordinates with Law Enforcement personal and other responders as required.
* Engage in firefighting efforts to include but not be limited to; entering burning structures, fight wildfires, ventilation operations, rescue victims, salvage and overhaul, operating firefighting hose lines and nozzles, connecting and disconnecting hoses and couplings, operating off of ground ladders, operatizing in elevated positions such as on roofs and balconies, as well as other duties as needed to control fire emergencies.
* Engage in rescue operations to include but not be limited to; technical high and low angle rope rescue operations, using ropes and equipment to effect rescues of trapped and/or injured victims, use powered tools to extricate trapped and/or injured victims, enter confined spaces to effect rescue of trapped and/or injured victims, use hand tools effectively and safely, assist in the recovery of deceased victims, and has a working knowledge of trench rescue operations.
* Mitigates hazards and emergency situations involving hazardous materials.
* Inspects and maintains Dept. facilities, vehicles', equipment, apparatus, tools, supplies, and assists in maintaining a current inventory of required items.
* Inspects, tests, and maintains fire hydrants and fire suppression equipment as required.
* Inspects, cleans, and maintains all personal protective equipment issued and ensures it is in a ready state at all times.
* Performs station maintenance and cleaning, keeps living quarters in an orderly and clean condition. Performs minor repairs to facilities, vehicles, apparatus, and equipment.
* Learn County geography, traffic patterns, streets, landmarks, building locations, special hazard locations to ensure emergency operations are accomplished in a safe and effective manner.
* Assists in the maintenance and creating of required Department records and documents per local procedure and applicable laws.
* Assists in public education events for a wide variety of audiences including but not limited to; schools, clubs, HOA's, businesses, home owners, and fire wise organizations.
* Conduct building safety inspections for local businesses in conjunction with the County Fire Marshal and his/her staff.
* Assist in fire origin and cause investigations in conjunction with the investigating agency.
* Attends all required trainings. Also seeks out training opportunities to better themselves and their craft.
* Assists with training events as required.
* Work well/ alongside all Fire & EMS staff to include Volunteers.
EMS Related Duties:
* Responds to emergency medical calls; utilizes radio communications; operates ambulance under emergency conditions and normal conditions to transport accident victims and emergency medical patients to health care facilities, hospitals or other institutions.
* Evaluates patient's condition and/or injuries and accident scenes and/or medical emergencies and administers aid as per protocol; monitors patient's vital signs and provides basic life support until transported to hospital.
* Operates resuscitation and suction devices during cardiopulmonary resuscitation; applies CPAP, applies vacuum splints, cervical collars, backboards, and various other medical devices used to immobilize patients during transport and extrication.
* Applies bandages and dressing on soft tissue injuries as needed to stop bleeding; applies pneumatic anti-shock pants on patients as per protocol to maintain profusion of patient's vital signs; lifts and carries patients from scene to ambulance according to established procedures; performs various basic lifesaving procedures such as pulse oximetry, cardiac monitoring, blood glucometry, oxygen administration, ventilator applications, splinting, oropharyngeal and nasopharyngeal airway placement, combi tube placement, king airway placement, semi-automatic defibrillation, oral glucose administration, and approved chemical/medication administrations, intranasal drug administration, nebulized medication administration. etc.; assists with emergency childbirth.
* Performs preventative maintenance on assigned ambulance; performs daily inspection; cleans exterior and interior of vehicle; assures ambulance is properly stocked with necessary supplies; apprises supervisor as needed to purchase replacement materials or schedule complex repairs.
* Operates under the qualified EMT-B, EMT, I or EMT Paramedic Scope of practice. Depending on EMT licensure.
* Performs related duties as required.

Fair Labor Standards Act Provisions:
This position is non-exempt under the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act and is subject to the organization's policies and procedures pertaining to overtime hours. Will be scheduled varying shifts in accordance to FLSA guidelines for Fire Departments (207K) as approved by the Board of Taos County Commission.
Independence of Action; Supervision Received:
Taos County Firefighters and EMT's work under general supervision of the Shift Lieutenant. Employee works with multiple people on shift and checks with supervisor only when in doubt. Established policy and procedures are clearly established, and general instructions provided.
Supervision Exercised:
The Firefighter/ EMT is responsible for own work and has no supervisory authority or responsibility; although the Firefighter/ EMT may be responsible for running Fire and EMS calls and other duties that are assigned by the position's supervisor.
Coordination and Cooperation with Internal and External Parties:
Internal:
Responds to Fire and EMS calls while on shift, and works with other department staff on training and special projects that may have a moderate impact on provision of Taos County's Fire and EMS Department.
External:
Employee has a vast amount of independent contact with external parties. Under direction of the Director or the Shift Lieutenant, may work or train with other Fire and EMS agencies, and others to provide accurate services.
