1888

Redding, city, seat (1888) of Shasta county, northern California, United States It lies in the northern Sacramento Valley.

1923

In the summer of 1923, the first woman was deputized for the summer to provide police services at the local swimming resort.

1957

In 1957, juvenile problems had escalated, and the first Juvenile Officer position was created.

1962

In 1962, the people of Shasta County had the opportunity to choose between local control and federal management of Whiskeytown.

1970

The end of the 1970’s put the Department into the new — and current — building, a renovated auto dealership, on the corner of California and Shasta Streets.

1972

In 1972, the first police radar system was put into operation.

2004

In 2004, as an effort to increase tourism in the area, the Sundial Bridge, designed by world-renowned architectural designer Santiago Calatrava, was completed.

2008

In 2008 he was appointed Assistant City Manager and also served as the Electric Utility Director.

2009

Serving in a variety of positions in the Housing Division, he is responsible for coordinating community development projects, income-qualifying housing projects and has served as the City’s Downtown Liaison since 2009.

2021

The City of Redding will be closing the burn season starting Sunday, May 2, 2021 at 5:00 p.m.
