Today our agency continues to address the emotional and physical needs of children and families in Brooklyn, Queens and across Long Island through innovative treatments and life-changing interventions. We provide community-based prevention and family foster care services, group homes in the community for struggling children and families within the child welfare and juvenile justice systems, and short-term residential services for unaccompanied migrant children. Each year, MercyFirst serves more than 3,000 children, teenagers and families overcome enormous obstacles, re-imagine their futures and develop their full potential. PROGRAM BACKGROUND: Enhanced Hard-to-Place (HTP) Group Home program, providing specialized residential services to adolescents, between the ages of 13 to 18, in 2 gender-specific homes, with a maximum capacity of 8 in each house. The group home offers community-based, home-like atmosphere while providing a structured and therapeutic environment to meet the residents' needs. The program is designed for individuals with a history of behavioral difficulties that cannot be successfully maintained in their family home setting, a history of multiple unsuccessful placements, as well as victims of abuse/maltreatment and trauma. The program provides individual, group, and family therapy with 24-hour supervision within a highly structured therapeutic milieu POSITION SUMMARY: Under the supervision of the assigned Program Manager, the Transportation Worker provides transportation for our clients in whatever capacity is necessary. Shifts assigned may vary and change according to Agency needs. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma or Equivalent. Must have and maintain a valid Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record for most positions. No specific experience is required; however, prior experience with children and adolescents is preferred. This experience can be paid experience or unpaid experience. RESPONSIBILITIES: Uphold our Mission and Core Values and Sanctuary Commitments. Comply with Agency Personnel Policies and Procedures. Conduct all work with good faith compliance of all legal and regulations requirements. Maintain good attendance and report to work on time. Complete attendance records accurately. Safeguard confidential information. Successfully complete minimum training requirements, including but not limited to: Mandated Reporter Trauma Informed Care Protected Health Information (PHI) Certification in First Aid and CPR Basic Child Development Client Engagement Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) Communicate accurate information in a timely manner to supervisors. Accurately complete job-related documentation in a timely manner. Communicate in a professional manner to children, families, peers, outsides agencies/vendors. Demonstrate cultural competence. Demonstrate a willingness to take on new responsibilities and alter performance with changing needs. Continually seek to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of their department and the agency. Organize tasks, data and work area. Manage time effectively. Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. Maintain a safe and secure environment for clients Safely transport clients, families, visitors as assigned Obey all traffic rules and regulations Demonstrate knowledge of human development stages Report behaviors believed to be symptomatic or emotional, physical or psychological disturbances Document clients' behaviors and activities Facilitate the exchange of health information and documentation of care received by the child in the community. Ensure the required documentation received before and at appointments remains secure.     Two shifts open: Monday - Friday, 6AM - 10AM Monday - Friday, 2PM - 6PM Provide safe and efficient transport of clients to and from school. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Develops and manages daily transportation route for all youth receiving school transportation. Maintains daily log of child/youth scheduled transportation times and safe delivery to pre-identified location, daily mileage log, and gas receipts. Maintains and completes daily vehicle inspection to check the van before each operation for mechanical defects, fuel, and safety equipment. Transports clients to and from school when DCPS and CFSA are unavailable, or services are not approved; and informing foster parents of the time-of-service pick-up and/or arrival to the home, and any changes that occur to the schedule. Provides transportation outside of normal (9am - 5pm) business hours, dependent on the school hours of youth on their route. Arranges transportation with colleagues to be approved by supervisor when preparing to take leave or unable to provide service due to illness with sufficient notice. Greets all customers and assists with boarding transportation and securing young children in seat belts and car seats as appropriate. Reports all incidents to supervisor in a timely manner and required incident reports for approval. Non-Essential Duties: Other duties as assigned. Participates in full staff meetings. Qualifications: Valid and violation-free driver's license and driving history. High School Diploma/GED required with excellent customer service skills or combination of relevant education, training and work experience required.
