1877

Founded in 1877, Colorado's Regis University is the only Jesuit, Catholic university in the Rocky Mountains and one of 27 Jesuit colleges and universities in the United States.

In 1877, a group of exiled Italian Jesuits established a small college in Las Vegas, New Mexico.

1884

In 1884, the Bishop of Denver invited the Jesuits to create a college at Morrison where Sacred Heart College was opened.

1887

Renamed as the College of the Sacred Heart, it operated there for three years until a Jesuit-educated man, John Brisben Walker, gifted our establishment land in 1887.

1921

Later, in 1921, it adopted the name of Regis College in honor of Saint John Francis Regis, a 17th-century Jesuit who worked with prostitutes and the poor in the mountains of Southern France.

1927

On June 6, 1927, they purchased it from Fannie Demmon Morrison, who was the only child of Daniel Lake Demmon, a wealthy businessman and the treasurer of a copper mining company.

Regis College opened its doors on September 21, 1927.

Regis College was founded in 1927 by the Sisters of St Joseph of Boston - A Catholic order that started a school within four days of arriving in Boston from France.

1974

1988

In the summer of 1988, Loretto Heights College closed its doors 70 years after its founding in Denver by the Sisters of Loretto.

1991

Three of its academic programs moved to Regis College and provided the foundation for the Rueckert-Hartman College for Health Professions and the College for Professional Studies (now School for Professional Advancement), ultimately allowing us to become Regis University in 1991.

In 1991, Regis College was renamed Regis University.

2007

In 2007, the School for Professional Studies was renamed the College for Professional Studies (CPS), with the mission of providing a values-centered Jesuit education designed for the adult learner.
