The Senior Cardiovascular Sonographer performs diagnostic cardiac examinations, utilizing equipment in various modes and techniques to locate, evaluate and record pertinent anatomical pathological and functional data of the cardiovascular system. They are recognized as clinical experts in the field of Cardiac Sonography, performing high skill level ultrasound exams, participating in the lab accreditation process as well as the quality improvement/assurance process.

Consistent performance (at least 50% of the time) of all high skill level exams performed within the lab; exams include but are not limited to Echocardiograms for the evaluation of Mitral Valve Clip and/or Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacements, Stress Echocardiograms, LV/RV 3d Volumes and LV/RV Strain Analysis
Regarded as a subject matter expert and mentor for other Cardiac Sonographers. Serves as a professional and technical role model for staff.
Assists in teaching students, residents, fellows and new employees.
Assists with workflow and scheduling and rescheduling of exams when necessary.
Assists with equipment service needs (Preventative Maintenance and repair) when management is not present, or as delegated.
Demonstrates a thorough understanding of clinical indications and all procedures performed.
Independently perform all cardiovascular diagnostic examinations within ARDMS scope of practice.
Independently perform high skill level cardiovascular ultrasound exams
Completes findings for each exam. Confirms the necessary information is present according to IAC standards and lab protocols.
Creates recording of findings, per lab protocols, for analysis and interpretation based on the disease state of the patient presented for testing.
Detects malfunctions and disease states of patient during diagnostic exam, determining anatomy and variability from patient-to-patient to optimize the ultrasound tools required to obtain technically satisfactory images.
Acts within ARDMS scope of practice, utilizes independent, professional judgment to adapt procedure plan to optimize exam results.
Clearly translates data from exam into written report for physician interpretation.
Consults with physician regarding preliminary findings prior to the physician's interpretation, including special considerations and measurements. Contact covering physician if urgent findings are present.
Assures timely scheduling of urgent/add-on exams.
Provides education to the patient and/or family pertaining to the exam.
Ensures proper maintenance (wiping/cleaning) of equipment and willingness to troubleshoot equipment issues.
Evaluates and recommends new products and equipment when discovered by attending conferences or reading journals.
Travel to satellite locations and clinic sites may be necessary to perform job duties
Ability to perform functions using job-related software and systems.

Remote registered diagnostic cardiac sonographer job
Under the direction of the Manager, Cardiology & Pulmonary Services and Nursing Supervisor, Cardiology, the Echocardiographer has primary responsibility to perform all forms of Echocardiographic studies. The Echocardiographer is responsible to perform the functions of the CPL Tech I and Tech II technician. Responsible for providing services to newborns through geriatrics. Assumes responsibility for policy/procedure, performance improvement activities and collaborative committee participation. Acts as a clinical preceptor for all levels.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education:
Successful completion of an ultrasound or cardiovascular technology program which includes didactic and supervised clinical experience in echocardiography.
Experience:
Recent training or training and experience in echocardiography.
Preference may also be given to candidates who have documented previous experience in similar duties.
Preference may be given to candidates with documented experience in invasive echocardiography (transesophageal echocardiography) procedures.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Skill in basic keyboarding.
Demonstrates a willingness to accept the responsibility for independent study to advance skills and knowledge in job responsibilities.
Demonstrates good interpersonal skills.
Demonstrates mature judgment.
License/Certification/Registration:
Preference is given to candidates who are registered by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer) or by the Cardiovascular Credentialing International (Registered Cardiac Sonographer).Registration must be obtained within one year of hire/transfer.
Meets the American Heart Association's standards for Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) and renews BLS every two years.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Assumes the responsibilities of the Echocardiography Technician.
Demonstrates competency in performing the skills of the Level I and II Cardiopulmonary Technician to the standards delineated in the department Policy and Procedure Manual.
Performs Echocardiographic examinations, including 2-dimensional, M-mode, Doppler and color flow interrogation. Performs exercise and pharmacologic stress echocardiographic procedures, including patient preparation and imaging.
Delineates abnormalities and expands the scope of the examination appropriately.
Correlates invasive and noninvasive diagnostic tests with cardiac anatomy and function.
Establishes priorities, work routines and workflow patterns to assure prompt and efficient delivery of service.
Completes all appropriate measurements and calculations (2-D and Doppler) to provide available anatomic and hemodynamic information. .
Assists in training/mentoring co-workers with lesser degree of skill/expertise in cardiac diagnostic procedures.
Assists and participates in the quality improvement initiatives as required by the accrediting body.
Collects data and maintains records.
Completes in timely manner all requisite documentation of study performance.
Completes in timely manner all charge procedures associated with study.
Generates and provides information necessary for physicians' charge for interpretation/performance of studies.
Processes reports of diagnostic procedures, and forwards to appropriate destinations(s).
Performs the test with sensitivity to the needs of the patient.
Introduces self and explains the process of the test.
Provides privacy.
Maintains patient comfort.
Uses sound judgment to terminate the test within the realm of the job description as appropriate.
Seeks help to perform the test as needed.
Maintains the integrity of equipment and adequate supplies.

Responsibilities
The Cardiovascular Sonographer performs diagnostic cardiovascular ultrasound imaging exams, utilizing equipment in various modes and techniques to locate, evaluate and record pertinent anatomical pathological and functional data of the cardiovascular system.
Demonstrates a thorough understanding of clinical indications and the cardiovascular ultrasound imaging procedures performed.
Independently performs all diagnostic cardiovascular examinations within ARDMS scope of practice.
Prepares the report for interpretation by the physician, confirming all necessary information is present according to IAC standards and lab protocols.
Acts within ARDMS scope of practice, utilizes independent, professional judgment to adapt procedure plan to optimize exam results.
Clearly translates data from exam into written report for physician interpretation.
Consults with physician regarding preliminary findings prior to the physician's interpretation, including special considerations and measurements. Contact covering physician if urgent findings are present.
Assures timely scheduling of urgent/add-on exams.
Provides education to the patient and/or family pertaining to the exam.
Ensures proper maintenance (wiping/cleaning) of equipment and willingness to troubleshoot equipment issues.
Travels to all locations and clinic sites to perform job duties as scheduled
Ability to perform functions using job-related software and systems.
