Summary: The Registered Dietitian is responsible for the assessment and planning of the nutritional care of the residents in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local standards, guidelines and regulations, policies, and procedures, and in coordination with the Food Service Director/Manager to ensure that qualify food service and nutritional care is provided to the residents. Ensures that all assessments and progress notes documented in the medical records are accurate, informative, and descriptive of the services provided and of the resident's response to the plan of care. Ensures all documentation is completed within the required timeframes and in accordance with Nursing Center policy and procedure, as well as state and federal regulations. Participates with the interdisciplinary team in developing, implementing, and evaluating plans of care; attends meetings/conferences to discuss the clinical care of the resident; and communicates resident concerns and response to interventions to interdisciplinary team members and direct care staff. Involves the resident/family in planning objectives and goals for the resident. Coordinates with the Food Service Director/Manager the review and customization of the regular and therapeutic menus to meet the food preferences of the residents in accordance with established policies, procedures, Diet Manual guidelines, standard of practice, and regulations and to ensure that all diets ordered by the physician are planned on the therapeutic menu. Provides feedback and suggestions to improve the menu. Monitors food temperatures and quality at point of service. Monitors the distribution of nourishments, supplements, and meals to residents and takes corrective action when necessary. Assists the Food Service Director/Manager with processing diet orders and changes and ensuring that an accurate tray card is available for each resident receiving meals. Ensures that new residents are visited upon admission to obtain a Diet History and food preferences, on the company approved form. Routinely inspects the food service area(s) and practices. Participates in the long-term care survey process. JOB SUMMARY The Registered Dietitian Nutritionist 1 is primarily responsible for providing nutritional education, guidance, counseling, and oversight to all aspects of the Women, Infants and Children's (WIC) nutrition service program and ensuring implementation of policies as well as adhering to the standards and guidelines of the WIC Program. Required Tasks Conduct nutritional and biometric assessments for selected populations. Integrate clinical, biochemical, and dietary information to identify nutritional/health risks/needs of families to formulate a plan of long- and short-term care. Manage information by documenting data gathered including the qualifications for the program, immunization assessments and the qualifying nutritional health risk, in accordance with policies and procedures. Develop high-risk care plans for at risk clients and counsel, as needed to effect positive health outcomes including the documentation of all activities and follow up interventions in a timely manner. Implement nutrition risk education by conducting individual and group education sessions. Determine approval of food packages and/or special formula requests in accordance with policy and procedures. Provide client-centered education and referrals to clients and families relative to breastfeeding, immunizations, parenting, health care, prenatal care, safety, substance use, communicable diseases, environmental health, and other subjects as needed by client. Address the diversity of individuals, families and groups when implementing policies, programs and services that affect the health of a community. Document participation in professional meetings and educational programs to maintain familiarity with current principles and practices of nutrition and dietetics with annual reporting of continuing professional education units (CPEUs). Integrate a variety of software applications including but not limited to MI-WIC, MCIR, WIC Direct, CHAMPS, RightFax and Outlook. Compile statistics and data needed to complete monthly reports and time studies required by the program. Attend state and local WIC meetings and training courses as required. Educational Requirements Bachelor of Science degree (Masters preferred), Registered Dietitian/Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RD/RDN) through the Commission on Dietetic Registration. Must have a valid State of Michigan driver's license. Registered as a dietitian with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics
