JOB PURPOSE:
The Forensic Nurse Examiner (FNE) will provide timely, non-judgmental, compassionate care to the sexual assault victim. This will include a forensic exam, prophylaxis for pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases, photographic documentation, referrals for appropriate medical and psychological follow-up, support and participation in legal proceedings. The FNE is expected to follow protocols established by the Medical Director and/or management of the Forensic Program for which the FNE is employed.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Ability to triage patient to determine if medical exam is needed before forensic exam.
Coordinate care by all agencies involved in assisting the sexual assault victim and coordinate referrals for appropriate medical and psychological follow-up as needed for each patient.
Perform and document sexual assault and forensic interview accurately.
Perform and document domestic violence/non-fatal strangulation and forensic interview accurately.
Perform a complete physical and forensic evidence collection examination including Head-to-Toe assessment for trauma, detailed genital examination, forensic specimen collection and documentation, including photography, and assess for mandatory reporting status, reporting when appropriate.
Document detailed injuries accurately with support of photographic evidence.
Maintain chain of custody for each sexual assault exam and adhere to evidence protocols
Maintain professional standards that do not create conflict of interests with employment or patient care, including patient and medical record confidentiality
Administer appropriate prophylactic medications per protocols
Provide testimony as fact witness to any/all cases performed as FNE and coordinate with attorneys during judicial process.
Responsible to maintain clinical expertise as a FNE.
Maintain current RegisteredNurse Licensure or higher.
Complete the initial state SANE training.
Complete the initial and on-going preceptor requirements as identified by the FNE Program
Maintain open communication with FNE Coordinator and/or management of FNE Program on regular basis.
Maintain equipment in proper working condition and exercise fiscal responsibility of units resources.
Share individual expertise with the other members of FNE Program.
Participate in quality assurance chart and photograph review process as determined by the FNE program
Adhere to all administrative, clinical, and employment policies and procedures on file with the FNE Program or hiring agency.
Participate in professional development as determined by the FNE program, including staff meetings, conferences, and in-services.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Bachelors or Associate degree in nursing- RegisteredNurse
Experience/training:
Minimum of one year work experience as a registerednurse
Completion of 40 hour Adult/Adolescent SANE course preferred
Completion of SANE preceptorship program including clinical and non-clinical practices set forth by the IAFN, RSI and OR-SATF preferred
License/certification:
Washington: Current RegisteredNursing License
Oregon: Current RegisteredNursing License
Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required at date of hire.

Complete the initial assessment of care needs for the patient and family, including physical, emotional, and mental status. Assesses, when indicated, cultural, religious, motivational, physical, cognitive, language, or emotional challenges to the provision of care, and plans for appropriate accommodation.
Provide education to patients and loved ones consistent with their learning needs, abilities, and readiness related to the patients health care needs, plan of care, and familys coping styles and abilities.
Participate in the admission process, including meeting patients and loved ones, providing hospice benefit information, explaining and obtaining signed consents, and assessing patient/family needs. Coordinate staff and community services as needed.
Follow through and modify the initial care plan as patient/family needs change, under the direction of the IDT.
Attend and participate in patient care conferences, staff support meetings, and staff meetings.
Maintain availability for on-call visits to assist and support patient/caregiver through physical and/or emotional crises, 24/7 on a rotating basis (one night per week and one weekend per month).
Offer optimal symptom management, emotional support, and energy-saving techniques to patients and caregivers. Support caregivers to keep the patient at home or in the home setting as long as desired.
Delegate tasks, conduct regular on-site evaluations, and supervise Hospice Aides. Review documentation and care plans. Complete annual competency checklists and evaluate tasks monthly.
Communicate with physicians, Director of Clinical Services, and IDT concerning patient care and document communication in the patient record or care plan.
Maintain current patient records, ensuring problems, actions, and goals are accurate and clearly stated.
Perform nursing skills according to standards accepted within the State of Oregon.
Demonstrates familiarity with Hospice policies, state and federal regulations, and standards for performance improvements and competencies.
Attend conferences/seminars offered by Hospice of Redmond to enhance competency and skill. Attend required in-service education.
Request referrals to other disciplines as needed to enhance team effort and quality of care.
Update volunteers as needed with patient condition or delegate this to the Volunteer Coordinator.

The Nurse utilizes teaching, assessment, observation, and intervention skills to provide palliative care and maximize quality of life for the patient and their family.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Complete the initial assessment of care needs for the patient and family, including physical, emotional, and mental status. Assesses, when indicated, cultural, religious, motivational, physical, cognitive, language, or emotional challenges to the provision of care, and plans for appropriate accommodation.
Provide education to patients and loved ones consistent with their learning needs, abilities, and readiness related to the patient's health care needs, plan of care, and family's coping styles and abilities.
Participate in the admission process, including meeting patients and loved ones, providing hospice benefit information, explaining and obtaining signed consents, and assessing patient/family needs. Coordinate staff and community services as needed.
Follow through and modify the initial care plan as patient/family needs change, under the direction of the IDT.
Attend and participate in patient care conferences, staff support meetings, and staff meetings.
Maintain availability for on-call visits to assist and support patient/caregiver through physical and/or emotional crises, 24/7 on a rotating basis (one night per week and one weekend per month).
Offer optimal symptom management, emotional support, and energy-saving techniques to patients and caregivers. Support caregivers to keep the patient at home or in the home setting as long as desired.
Delegate tasks, conduct regular on-site evaluations, and supervise Hospice Aides. Review documentation and care plans. Complete annual competency checklists and evaluate tasks monthly.
Communicate with physicians, Director of Clinical Services, and IDT concerning patient care and document communication in the patient record or care plan.
Maintain current patient records, ensuring problems, actions, and goals are accurate and clearly stated.
Perform nursing skills according to standards accepted within the State of Oregon.
Demonstrates familiarity with Hospice policies, state and federal regulations, and standards for performance improvements and competencies.
Attend conferences/seminars offered by Hospice of Redmond to enhance competency and skill. Attend required in-service education.
Request referrals to other disciplines as needed to enhance team effort and quality of care.
Update volunteers as needed with patient condition or delegate this to the Volunteer Coordinator.
Coordinate transfer and/or discharge of patient under the direction of IDT/Director of Clinical Services, ensuring continuity of care.
Demonstrate respect for and promote the dignity of patients in all interactions. Maintain confidentiality.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Current Oregon licensure as a RegisteredNurse.
At least two years of experience as a staff nurse in an acute care setting, Home Health Agency, or Hospice.
Reliable automobile, current liability insurance, and Oregon driver's license.
Satisfactory results from a background check and drug screen.
