POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the general direction of the Unit Director, Clinical Manager and Charge Nurse, the R.N. (Registered Nurse) independently provides holistic, individualized care using the Nursing Process for patients routinely seen on the unit. Demonstrates an advanced level of clinical competency, Nursing judgment, teaching skills, and a commitment to improving the quality of patient care. Independently performs general and unit-specific clinical skills. Contributes to the Sierra View Medical Center Department of Patient Care Services and the Nursing profession in a positive manner.
Is responsible for the assessment, treatment or care appropriate to the ages of the patients served. Demonstrates the ability to obtain and interpret information in terms of the patient's needs. Possesses knowledge of growth and development and has an understanding of the range of treatment needed for all patient groups.
Must be able to work normal/scheduled working hours to include Holidays, call-backs, weeknights, weekends, and on-call. Agrees to participate, as directed, in emergencies and community disasters during scheduled and unscheduled hours. As a designated disaster service worker you are required to assist in times of need pursuant to the California Emergency Services Act.

3 * Identifies nursing diagnosis and interdependent nursing problems and selects applicable nursing care standards to guide patient care. Recognizes issues/concerns that could impact development of mutual goals.
4 Ensures that the Care Plan is specific and unique to the individual patient utilizing Interdependent Nursing Standards and the discharge needs of complex/multi-system patients.
5 According to established clinical policy, procedure and standards, the R.N. safely performs nursing care including safe administration of medication, troubleshoots equipment and demonstrates skill in clinical problem solving.
6 Ensures that the nursing care provided is consistent with the established Nursing Plan of Care, the Medical Plan of Care and the ages of the patients served.
7 * The effectiveness of the Plan of Care is evaluated and communicated through exchange report; recommendations are made for future care and are consistent with current documentation.
8 * Communicates evaluation of, or changes in, patient status providing supportive data to the physician or health care team as appropriate.

INTENSIVE CARE UNIT SPECIFIC DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
1 * On the shift assigned, performs the role of Intensive Care Unit R.N. according to the policies and procedures of Sierra View Medical Center and Critical Care Services.
2 Maintains certification by the American Heart Association in Advanced Cardiac Life Support.
3 Successfully completes a class in basic arrhythmia recognition, and maintains competency.
4 * Initiates appropriate measures to support patient survivability and maintains functionality during life-threatening events.
5 * Communicates patient needs with other care providers in an effective and timely manner.
6 Demonstrates knowledge of chain of command for effective issues resolution at SVMC.

Administers first-aid treatment and life-support care to sick or injured persons in both pre-hospital and transfer settings. Responds to emergency and non-emergency transports as directed by the Communications Center.
Performs emergency diagnostic and treatment procedures listed in the State EMS Scope of Practice, such as splinting, medication administration, stomach suction, airway management and heart monitoring during ambulance transport.
Operates equipment such as EKGs, external defibrillators and bag-valve mask resuscitators in advanced life-support environments. Operates all equipment in a safe manner following established procedures.
Effectively coordinates patient care with sending and receiving facilities, emergency medical team members, and police and fire department personnel. Observes, records, and reports to a healthcare provider the patient's condition or injury, the treatment provided and reactions to drugs and treatment.
Communicates with dispatchers and treatment center personnel to provide information about emergency situations, to arrange reception of victims and to receive instructions for further treatment.
Assesses and prepares patients for transport, ensuring compliance with emergency medical transport regulations, protocol and procedures.
Guides and support Paramedics and EMT's in the application of appropriate EMS techniques.
Performs daily visual and audible inspection of assigned vehicle, appropriate ALS equipment, and document form stock, to ensure serviceability and compliance with safety and infection control regulations and standards.

The actual hourly wage offered will be in accordance with state or local minimum wage requirements for the job location.
U.S. based employees may be eligible for short-term incentives.
