Responsibilities

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A REGISTEREDNURSE (RN)
As a RegisteredNurse, you play an essential role in conducting patient visits to assess their nursing needs. You are in charge of making the initial evaluation visit in order to develop the plan of care for each of your patients. As you continue to visit your patients, you perform ongoing comprehensive assessments of their needs while making any necessary revisions to the plan of care under the direction of the physician. Using your specialized nursing skills, you provide whatever services or treatments are needed as well as educate the patient or caregiver regarding the disease process, self-care techniques, and prevention strategies.
In addition, you initiate the appropriate preventive and rehabilitative nursing procedures as ordered by the physician. You also prepare clinical and progress notes as well as coordinate all relevant services while making referrals when needed. Through direct communication with physicians and other staff members, you ensure that all necessary parties are kept informed about the condition and needs of each patient in your care. You continually re-evaluate the nursing needs of patients and assist with the discharge procedure when they are ready. At times, you provide supervision to our LPNs, vocational nurses, and home health aides, which involves delegating tasks and teaching them new skills.
The safety of your patients is of the utmost importance to you, and you take great care to practice infection control by following universal precautions. You also actively recognize and report any forms of abuse according to policy as well as federal and state laws. As needed, you help with tasks around the office and assist with leading orientation for new nurses. QUALIFICATIONS FOR A REGISTEREDNURSE (RN)
Graduate of an approved school of professional nursing
Active RN license in the state of Oklahoma
1+ years of nursing experience

Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and proof of insurance
Ability to travel long distances and adapt to frequently changing schedules.

PRINCIPAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Patient Duties:
Assess, plan, direct and evaluated total nursing care.
Uses good communication skills to interact with patients, families, and team members.
Assist Case Management by being a patient advocate, resource, and contact person for patients.
Provides basic education information to patients and family, focusing on self-care appropriate to their age and identified learning considerations and needs.
Performs assessment data collection and documents subjective data (chief complaint, allergies, etc.) and objective data (vital signs, weight, etc.). Reviews basic health history information for patients focusing on environmental, self-care and discharge planning.
Administers medications and intravenous solutions skillfully and correctly using the 7 patient rights, accurate patient identification and performs lab/diagnostic testing as ordered by the provider and reports all critical lab values immediately.
Demonstrates an ability to remain calm, perform effectively and professionally during peak periods of activity and emergency situations.
Assists provider with examination and procedures per request.
Utilizes universal precautions in obtaining specimens (venipuncture, cultures, etc.) and in delivery of patient care.
Other duties as required.
Team Duties:
Evaluates the effectiveness of the care given by the interdisciplinary care team and identifies problems and guides team members to their solution.
Assigns care to team members in accordance with patient needs, staff capabilities and qualifications.
Participates in training, orientation, competency assessment and education of new employees.
Communicates clearly, concisely, and accurately, creating a working climate that promotes growth and job satisfaction of personnel.
Uses effective coaching, positive reinforcement, and other methods to enhance team performance.
Serves as a resource person to other staff members.
Arrives on time, works scheduled shifts and badges in and out appropriately.

Administrative Duties:
Adhere to all policies of the organization, including (but not limited to) job description, certification/licensure requirements, mission statement, HIPAA, confidentiality standards and patient's rights.
Actively engage and stay up to date with organization's communications and directives.
Acts in a professional manner, reflecting the mission of Cleveland Area Hospital and demonstrates compliance with all policy, procedures, and state/federal regulations.
Demonstrates ongoing service excellence skills.
Maintains economical and efficient nursing care in a clean and safe environment.
Participates in performance improvement activities as required.

Participates in meetings, education and demonstrates genuine desire to develop strategies for improved operation for a higher level of patient care.
Assist Director of Nursing/Chief Nursing Officer in evaluating the performance of team members for performance appraisals.
Communicates effectively with DON/CNO any problems.
Reviews staffing to ensure an adequate number of qualified staff to provide quality care to patients.
Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATIONAL/SKILLS REQUIRED:
Current R.N. license recognized and in good standing with the Oklahoma Board of Nursing
BLS
ACLS - Current or within 6 months of hire
PALS - Current or within 6 months of hire
Able to make decisions under pressure.
Able to handle multiple priorities
EXPERIENCE:
One year preferred

This position could have access to patient confidential records and must comply with HIPAA regulations as well as Cleveland Area Hospital Policies.
